The Blues, in response to the report, wanted to make their position \u201cabsolutely clear\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cCarlton deny this … they said they \u2018want to make it absolutely clear that this report is untrue, misleading and factually incorrect\u2019,\u201d McClure relayed from Carlton. <\/p>\n
McClure confirmed it was his understanding that the prospective coaches the Blues purportedly reached out to had rejected them, ultimately resulting in Wright\u2019s recommendation. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve chosen not to name the coach tonight, because I don\u2019t believe the story is about that coach and the club to which he\u2019s coaching and is currently contracted,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
On August 7, the Blues said in a statement: \u201cThe Carlton Football Club can today confirm with absolute clarity that its senior coach Michael Voss will remain coach of the Blues into the 2026 AFL season.\u201d<\/p>\n
McClure said: \u201cThere are interesting parts of it here, if you look into the wording of it … don\u2019t dismiss the \u2018into\u2019 the 2026 season (wording). This isn\u2019t a glowing endorsement.\u201d<\/p>\n
McClure asked Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd: \u201cAre you surprised to hear that they\u2019ve reached out to others?\u201d to which Lloyd replied: \u201cNot really, no. <\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, Carlton will have their version, and they\u2019ve got to back their man. But that doesn\u2019t surprise me at all that you would, while you\u2019re doing your due diligence, reach out to others.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Blues have won just seven games from 21 this season as they will sit out September for the first time since Voss\u2019 first year in charge in 2022. <\/p>\n
With Voss now secure at Carlton to start the 2026, the focus now shifts to hires the club could make around the head coach to help enhance the situation. <\/p>\n
