A man has died and a house has been destroyed in a fire in Brisbane’s south.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the house on the corner of Foote and Annear streets in Acacia Ridge just after 1pm today.<\/p>\n

A man was inside at the time of the fire and was declared deceased at the scene.<\/p>\n

The one-storey building has been destroyed.<\/p>\n

Four fire crews battled the blaze, along with specialist teams and drones, and the fire was contained about 1:45pm.<\/p>\n

Police have closed Foote Street between Mortimer Road and Annear Street.<\/p>\n

Residents in the area have been urged to remain indoors and keep windows closed, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.<\/p>\n

A crime scene has been declared.<\/p>\n

‘Very nice guy’<\/p>\n

Senior Sergeant Rohan Manning-Jones said firefighters located the man’s body during a sweep of the building.<\/p>\n

He said neighbours tried to help the man in a “brave” but “futile” attempt.<\/p>\n

“It’s very commendable \u2026 they were lucky to get out without getting injured as well,” he said.<\/p>\n

“You gotta take your hat off to them, the house went up so quickly, to do what they did and get out without injuries.”<\/p>\n

He said police would assist witnesses.<\/p>\n

Neighbour Kazem Abdulahi said the fire was “huge”.<\/p>\n

He said his brother, a friend, and a neighbour attempted to help the man escape the fire but were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n

“They smashed the door, broke the door, tried to go in, but the fire was very [bad] \u2026 the fire came out, the ceiling [fell down] because of fire, they couldn’t go inside.<\/p>\n

Mr Abdulahi said firefighters attempting to gain access to the building were also driven back.<\/p>\n

“When they broke in and smashed the door to try to go in, the fire [fully came out] and they couldn’t go inside, the fire was terrible,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
