Now, it\u2019s using the same tactics against Seven to ratchet up pressure on the network as Idol reaches its conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>With Sandilands gone from the airwaves \u2013 for now, at least \u2013 the group wants him gone from TV as well, where he presents a much more cuddly persona than on his radio show.<\/p>\n<p>Idol has long provided Sandilands with a decent pay cheque, one he would no doubt like to hang onto after his <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/business\/companies\/jackie-o-demanded-kiis-bosses-stop-abusive-relationship-months-before-sandilands-blowup-20260408-p5zm42.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">mega deal with ARN was torn up in March,<\/a> even if only to <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/cbd\/from-vaucluse-to-copacabana-kyle-sandilands-has-four-mortgages-to-pay-20260329-p5zjmq.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">pay off his four mortgages<\/a>. Sandilands is now suing ARN in the Federal Court for $85 million.<\/p>\n<p>During an interview in January, <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/business\/companies\/i-haven-t-heard-anything-sandilands-in-the-dark-as-deadline-looms-20260317-p5ob3x.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sandilands spoke candidly about his Idol deal,<\/a> which he claimed was worth $1 million a year and has historically been renewed on one-year terms. He said the deal had been worth the same every year he had been on the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought they would say, \u2018No way\u2019, and then they said, \u2018Yes\u2019, all these years ago,\u201d Sandilands said of his fee back in January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to say I have never even had a pay rise \u2026 That is pretty good of me. It is very good money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said to Marcia [Hines, his Idol co-judge] a few weeks ago, \u2018I have never had a pay rise\u2019, and she said, \u2018You have been paid more than you deserve for decades\u2019. But a Seven spokesperson would not be drawn on whether Sandilands would remain part of Idol next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the grand finale not even out the door yet, we haven\u2019t locked our plans for Australian Idol for 2027. We are very happy with how the season and our judges have performed,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, MFW has become a key agitator in pressuring broadcasters to part ways with talent. Just ask former Triple M radio host <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/sport\/soccer\/got-any-men-s-sport-matildas-outraged-over-marty-sheargold-s-comments-20250226-p5lf7k.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Marty Sheargold, who departed the network\u2019s Melbourne breakfast show<\/a> last February following outrage over his disparaging comments about the Matildas, Australia\u2019s women\u2019s soccer team, and also endometriosis.<\/p>\n<p>As public uproar over his comments grew, MFW supporters started contacting advertisers on Sheargold\u2019s show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat started to trickle through to me that there were some issues around a couple of key clients and that that was when I knew I was in deep, deep water,\u201d Sheargold told the Game Changers Radio podcast recently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen I spoke with Dave Cameron [then Southern Cross Austereo\u2019s chief content officer] and he said, \u2018Listen, I am going to the board to find out what they want to do. What do you want to do?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Why don\u2019t we go our separate ways?\u2019 I said, \u2018Mate, I don\u2019t need to know what the board want to do. I don\u2019t need to hear from the CEO,\u2019 and he said, \u2018Well, all right, we will agree to go our separate ways\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Triple M, of course, is <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/business\/companies\/kerry-stokes-seven-plots-merger-with-triple-m-owner-20250930-p5myvv.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">owned by Southern Cross Austereo<\/a>. The same Southern Cross became the new owner of Seven earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Roberts-Smith saga inspires taxpayer-backed series<\/p>\n<p>The story of <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/politics\/federal\/ben-roberts-smith-exhibit-at-australian-war-memorial-updated-after-arrest-20260411-p5zn2h.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Roberts-Smith\u2019s downfall<\/a> from one of Australia\u2019s most decorated \u2013 and, for a period, most celebrated \u2013 soldiers, to one facing five counts of war crime murder was always going to be a tantalising one for screenwriters. In an April funding announcement, Screen Australia does not name Roberts-Smith as a subject of the series, and it\u2019s unclear how closely it will mirror real-life events.
