\u201cI did expect him to be a little more aggressive, but this is super f\u2014king dangerous game, man,\u201d Reyes said during his post-fight press conference. \u201cAnything he did, I expected. I wasn\u2019t caught off guard\u2026 it was a good technical fight.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reyes explained that Walker\u2019s lack of forward pressure forced him to adjust on the fly.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was on the fly, and I was making adjustments for my coaches,\u201d Reyes added. \u201cThe game plan got switched up because I expected him to step into range more. I had to force the action and wobble him a few times. I don\u2019t think I overgameplanned or anything like that. I was fighting a guy who was getting in, not going \u2014 and it\u2019s difficult to fight like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reyes also pointed to the inherent risks of opening up too much \u2014 especially given his recent health history.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s super dangerous. If I get crazy, I could run into something,\u201d Reyes added. \u201cI just had a concussion six months ago \u2014 I probably shouldn\u2019t have taken the fight, but I did. I fought a very technical, clean fight and dominated all three rounds.\u201d<\/p>\n
And while fans may have wanted chaos, Reyes had other priorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know, being Dominick Reyes, people expect me to go all crazy \u2014 go for the knockout or get knocked out, but I have a son and I have to come home with two checks more than anything,\u201d Reyes added. \u201cGetting two checks means more than being entertaining.\u201d<\/p>\n
At this stage of his career, that mindset is understandable.<\/p>\n
Even if the fight sucked.<\/p>\n
