Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Kingsley \u2018Kcee\u2019 Okonkwo, has revealed that repeated snubs by award organisers once left him in tears.<\/p>\n

The Afrobeats artiste, formerly one half of the duo KC Presh, spoke about the emotional toll of being overlooked.<\/p>\n

He said the experience prompted him to stop placing importance on award recognition despite his contributions to the music industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up in an industry that wasn\u2019t fair to me. There wasn\u2019t any attention given to me at any moment. I was doing a lot that the industry wasn\u2019t recognising.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fans were the ones who were behind me. I did a lot of work; they were not nominating me for awards. And I cried; I was pained,\u201d the singer said on Afrobeats Intelligence podcast.<\/p>\n

The 47-year-old artiste explained that he eventually chose to detach himself from seeking validation through awards after noticing a consistent pattern of exclusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, when I win awards, or you don\u2019t nominate me, I don\u2019t care. I prefer the rewards to the awards. So, when \u2018Limpopo\u2019 came, oh, I was in tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, no, God has answered my prayer. He took me to the global market straight. After all the years I\u2019ve worked with Presh, that\u2019s like the biggest record I\u2019ve ever done,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Kcee began his music career in 1999 in his local church before rising to prominence after KC Presh won the maiden edition of the Star Quest music competition in 2002.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his more recent success, the singer highlighted the viral impact of his 2024 hit \u201cOjapiano,\u201d which he said gained rapid traction on TikTok.<\/p>\n

\u201cI dropped \u2018Ojapiano\u2019 like today, the next day, it was doing 120,000 videos on TikTok in one day. And it happened for seven days non-stop. That\u2019s organic. The white people were vibing to it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Known for his versatility, Kcee has released several hit songs over the years, including \u201cOkpekete,\u201d \u201cTender\u201d featuring Tekno, \u201cOjaginger,\u201d and \u201cBig Fish,\u201d alongside culturally inspired tracks such as \u201cCultural Praise\u201d and \u201cCultural Vibes.\u201d<\/p>\n
