Editor’s note (Sunday, April 12): Jon Rahm<\/a> shot a 4-under 68 in the final round of the Masters. After making just six birdies across his first three rounds, Rahm found another gear on Sunday, pouring in seven birdies while offsetting them with three bogeys. He finishes the tournament at 1 over.<\/p>\n

“Definitely some things I’m going\u00a0change\u00a0going forward,” Rahm said. “Preparation-wise and what to do. But\u00a0it’s\u00a0hard to say how much I learned because I\u00a0don’t\u00a0think we ever seen a\u00a0Masters\u00a0this firm and I\u00a0don’t\u00a0know how long tease\u00a0going\u00a0to be until we\u00a0do\u00a0again. AUGUSTA, Ga. \u2013 On a weekend in which he hoped to make some leaderboard noise,\u00a0Jon Rahm<\/a> instead hit the let\u2019s-work-on-a-few-things phase of his perplexing Masters week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 2023 Masters champ shot a 1-over 73 in Saturday\u2019s third round, leaving him at 5 over through 54 holes and tied for 48th among the 54 players in the field who made the cut.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Unless he moves inside the top 45 after Sunday\u2019s final round, it will be his worst result in his 10 career Masters starts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only thing about a weekend like today, once things are not going well enough, is you can start trying things just to see how it feels or how you can do it in competition,\u201d Rahm said. \u201cJust a bit of what I did today. Probably what I’ll do tomorrow. Hitting it on the range is one thing; doing it on the golf course is a different thing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the position he expected to be in, especially given his strong start to the 2026 LIV Golf season with one win, three seconds and a fifth in the first five tournaments that has him in first place in the season-long Individual Championship points race, which he\u2019s won in each of his first two LIV Golf seasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But an opening 6-over 78 \u2013 in which the Legion XIII<\/a> captain acknowledged losing the feel of his swing \u2013 left him scrambling just to make a cut. Friday\u2019s 2-under 70 got him to the weekend but 16 shots off Rory McIlroy\u2019s 36-hole lead and needing a couple of Hail Mary low rounds just to make things interesting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He birdied two of his first three holes Saturday but failed to convert a 16-footer at the par-5 2nd. Still, he had a 9-foot birdie attempt after a terrific tee shot at the par-3 fourth. But his missed putt seemed to take any remaining wind out of his sails, and he didn\u2019t make another birdie until the 15th.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Augusta National\u2019s greens definitely were not his friend this week. On Thursday, he needed 33 putts; just seven of the 91 players in the field needed more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ll tell you one thing: My putting hasn’t been the best,\u201d Rahm said. \u201cI’ve been putting the line the last two days \u2013 which I rarely ever do, right? \u2013 just to help me a little bit.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Asked why the week didn\u2019t turn out the way he \u2013 or frankly anybody else in the golf world \u2013 expected, Rahm could only shrug.\u00a0<\/p>\n
