No. 13 Georgia men\u2019s tennis swept No. 19 Auburn 4-0 on Senior Day in the Bulldogs\u2019 final home match of the season at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Sunday, April 12.<\/p>\n
Four seniors were honored prior to the match:\u00a0Will Jansen, Santiago Giamichelle, Arda Azkara and Derrick Chen.<\/p>\n
Georgia set the tone early in doubles play. Noah Johnston and Chen were first off the court, defeating Jake\u00a0Kennedy and Hamza Nasridinov 6-3.<\/p>\n
Two tight contests remained on the first two courts. The No. 17-ranked tandem of Giamichelle\u00a0and Azkara broke serve to take a 5-4 lead, putting themselves in a position to clinch the doubles point. They held serve in the following game, securing the point and giving Georgia an early 1-0 advantage, beating No. 12 Billy Blaydes and Freddy Blaydes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Bulldogs are 15-2 on the season when winning the doubles point.<\/p>\n
Jansen, Azkara and Johnston each earned early breaks in their opening singles sets, helping Georgia get off to a fast start. Five of six Bulldogs claimed their first set.<\/p>\n
Gabriele Vulpitta delivered\u00a0one of the most dominant performances of the afternoon, defeating Manel Lazaro 6-1, 6-0, punctuated by a 40-0 final game.<\/p>\n
Chen was next to finish, extending Georgia\u2019s lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Alan Bojarski.<\/p>\n
With the match on the line, it was fitting that a senior sealed the victory, No.\u00a047 Jansen clinched\u00a0the match in a second-set tiebreak, defeating his opponent, No. 66 Billy Blaydes, 6-1, 7-6(3) to secure the 4-0 sweep for Georgia.<\/p>\n
The Bulldog faithful filled the stands, and loud cheers echoed through the Dan Magill Tennis Complex as Georgia closed out its home slate in dominant fashion.\u00a0<\/p>\n
