2<\/p>\n McGregor has declared he will be back in 2026Credit: Getty<\/p>\n Although he did have an official comeback planned for last year, against Michael Chandler, McGregor pulled out due to a broken toe.<\/p>\n With two fights left on his current UFC<\/a> contract, it makes sense that McGregor is eyeing up a spot on the White House Card.<\/p>\n US President, Donald Trump, announced that he wanted to host a historic event as part of the celebrations for 250 years of American Independence.<\/a><\/p>\n Trump’s plans led to McGregor taking the first step on the way to returning to the Octagon<\/a>, re-entering the drug testing pool.<\/p>\n The Irishman has since uploaded an Instagram story of him training, although the video was met with a lot of comments doubting his ability years on from his last outing.<\/p>\n One of the more notable reactions was that of Cris Cyborg, a former UFC champion, who took to X to respond to McGregor’s clip with not one, but seven, laughing emojis.<\/a><\/p>\n While McGregor’s MMA record stands at 22-6, he has been out of action since his back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier in 2021.<\/p>\n McGregor has been linked with a huge amount of comeback options including Paddy Pimblett<\/a> and Ilia Topuria<\/a>.<\/p>\n But he has yet to finalise his concrete plans, although he wants in on the historic night planned for next year.<\/p>\n What do we know so far about the UFC White House card?<\/p>\n We do know that McGregor is not the only fighter gearing up to earn a spot on the card.<\/p>\n 2<\/p>\n McGregor is making his first steps to a return<\/p>\n Jon Jones<\/a> has also revealed he is willing to reverse his retirement decision<\/a> in order to feature on the card.<\/p>\n Jones jumped at re-joining the testing pool, despite having only just retired in June. <\/p>\n Although, Dana White<\/a> he didn’t seem too keen on letting Jones partake.<\/a><\/p>\n Only time will tell who White will select to make up the card, but one thing that’s for sure is it will be an iconic event in UFC history. <\/p>\n White’s excited reaction to the event does suggest it to be the perfect opportunity to catapult MMA further into the mainstream media, should the card be crafted suitably. <\/p>\n As it stands, none of the formal details have been announced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Conor McGregor has been mocked for his ‘slow’ training footage ahead of a planned UFC comeback.
