Cameron Norrie<\/a> expertly navigated a late twist on Monday at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell<\/a>, where he held off a spirited comeback from 41-year-old Stan Wawrinka<\/a>.<\/p>\n After failing to serve out the match at 5-4 in the second set, Norrie ultimately battled for a dramatic 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-4 win after two hours and 33 minutes at the ATP 500 event. Wawrinka, competing in the final season of his ATP Tour career, struck 38 winners to Norrie\u2019s 16 but will rue his 59 unforced errors in his seventh and final appearance in Barcelona.<\/p>\n \u201cI put myself in a winning position serving at a set and 5-4 [up],\u201d Norrie explained. \u201cI played a little tentatively in two shots and then I was very tight in the tie-break. I probably should have won it, but credit to him. I played at a really good level in the third set. I really had to dig deep mentally and get fired up in some moments.\u201d<\/p>\n Norrie, the World No. 24, is into the second round in Barcelona for the fifth time in his past six appearances. He will next face American qualifier Ethan Quinn<\/a>, who earlier defeated countryman Reilly Opelka<\/a> 7-5, 7-6(7). It will be their first Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting.<\/p>\n Tomas Martin Etcheverry<\/a> also progressed to the second round after Jack Draper<\/a> \u2014 playing his first match since his opening-round loss in Miami \u2014 retired from their clash after one hour, 45 minutes, with the Argentine leading 4-1 in the deciding set. Etcheverry leads the Tour with 13 clay-court wins this season, according to the Infosys ATP Win\/Loss Index, highlighted by claiming his maiden title in Rio de Janeiro in February.<\/p>\n #NextGenATP star Rafael Jodar<\/a> extended his winning streak to six matches by prevailing 6-1, 6-2 in an all-Spanish clash with Jaume Munar<\/a>. The 19-year-old wild card, who won his maiden ATP Tour title in Marrakech earlier this month, next meets Karen Khachanov<\/a> or Camilo Ugo Carabelli<\/a> at his home ATP 500 event.<\/p>\n Corentin Moutet<\/a> got Monday\u2019s play underway on Pista Rafa Nadal with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Ignacio Buse<\/a>, bringing the crowd to life when he converted his first match point with a gritty defensive rally.
