The thumping heavyweight showdown forms part of what will be the first of seven shows held Down Under in 2026 by UK promoter Eddie Hearn – with the Matchroom Boxing event topped by Australia’s interim WBC super bantamweight champ Skye Nicolson.

Already, Hearn has labelled Teremoana Jnr a future world heavyweight champion.

Only last week, the Brisbane-based prospect offered to square off against Australia’s new crossover king Nelson Asofa-Solomona, while also calling out national heavyweight champ Stefan Ivic.

The challenges come as Teremoana Jnr is also wasting little time building up his resume, with this latest fight announcement coming only a tick over three weeks since his most recent win over American Curtis Harper – which doubled as the Australian’s seventh straight first round finish.

In 10 wins, Teremoana has only gone beyond the first round twice.

The most time he has spent in the ring during that same period is four minutes, 40 seconds.

Tupou, meanwhile, is a mainstay of the Australian heavyweight scene.

Despite initially being tipped for an NRL career with Penrith Panthers, the powerhouse winger switched to boxing and during a long career has trained with the likes of Johnny Lewis, Jeff Fenech and even spent a considerable stint in Las Vegas.

Tupou is also no stranger to big finishes inside the boxing ring, among them a scary 2019 KO that left opponent Randall Rayment out cold for what seemed an eternity.

The former Panthers junior, who became world ranked under Fenech, was also one of Alex Leapai’s main sparring partners when the Queenslander challenged Wladimir Klitschko for the world heavyweight title.

Based Stateside throughout the early 2000s, where he trained with the likes of Justin Fortune and Roger Mayweather, Tupou fought heavyweights like Manuel Quezada, Bryant Jennings and Malik Scott.

While now aged 43, the Sydneysider still shapes as arguably the toughest test of Teremoana’s undefeated career.

The April showdown, which will be announced at a press conference in Brisbane today, will likely act as co-main to Nicolson’s bout against Mariah Turner.

Speaking with Fox Sports Australia last week, Teremoana declared himself keen to throw down against any of Australia’s best heavyweights.

He also called for a bout next up with Asofa-Solomona, suggesting an all-Australian showdown between the pair would be “a great fight for Australian fans”.

“Oh, I’m up for that fight, definitely,” Teremoana Jnr said of the fighting the Melbourne Storm premiership hero.

“And that fight would actually be a great one for Australian fans.

“There would be a lot of eyes on that one.

“Obviously, I’ll fight anyone, whoever they put in front of me … but, yeah, I’d love that fight”.

And as for how quickly he reckons the end would come?

“How fast do I knock him out? Dunno,” the heavyweight grinned. “Because I never know.

“I never go out there trying to take my opponents out in the first round.

“My plan is to be patient, use my skill, my athleticism … [laughs] I just also really like to crack on and have a fight.”

Teremoana has also called out Australia’s heavyweight champ Stevan Ivic, plus Liam Talivaa and Ben Sila.

“I really want the Australian title,” he said. “That’s that fight I’ve been asking for, and asking for a while, too.

“There’s a few good boys here that I’ve called out.

“So we’ll see.

“I’m confident that whoever I step into the ring with, I’ll take of them.

“It’s exciting times right now.

“My plan is to headline some Matchroom shows here, then headline all over the world.”

Earlier this month, Teremoana needed less than three minutes to finish Curtis Harper, unleashing a brutal right hand that stiffened the American as he fell, and then left him sprawled out on the canvas.

Australia’s new KO King Teremoana Jnr has finally got his next fight set – and against a Sydneysider…

[571
64,63,802,85
post-604987","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-boxing","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-boxing","tag-sports
["GET
