A man is recovering in hospital after an unknown person stabbed him during a home invasion on the Gold Coast.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police were called to Plateau Crescent in Carrara shortly after 4am on Tuesday morning, where they located the man with numerous stab wounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Queensland Ambulance said the man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with life-threatening stab wounds.<\/p>\n
A hospital spokesperson said as of 9:00am, the man’s condition had stabilised.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A woman also sustained minor injuries during the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She was also taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.<\/p>\n
Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said the man and the woman were woken by the alleged offender and approached him in the lounge room of their home.<\/p>\n
“A struggle has followed, where the victim has received a number of stab wounds to the torso, right shoulder, and a cut to his face,” he said.<\/p>\n
Inspector Mooney said the woman’s chest was cut as she too struggled with the alleged offender.<\/p>\n
He said the “adult male” then ran from the house, and that neighbours had told police of a dark coloured SUV leaving the scene at “rapid speed”.<\/p>\n
“We believe that vehicle may be involved, but are yet to confirm,” he said.<\/p>\n
Forensics officers gathered evidence from the home today while both alleged victims spoke with investigators in hospital.<\/p>\n
“They’re in high spirits, obviously traumatised by the incident, but they’re assisting us,” Inspector Mooney said.<\/p>\n
He said the incident was a reminder to Gold Coast residents and the wider Queensland community about the importance of home security.<\/p>\n
“I’m not saying this is the case in this incident, [but] there’s too many times when these offences occur \u2026 [after] people have left their houses unlocked.<\/p>\n
“That’s just inviting offenders to enter houses.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Neighbour Ross McLennan said the incident had shocked the otherwise quiet street.<\/p>\n
“[Crime] is so close to home these days,” Mr McLennan said.<\/p>\n
“There’s no reason why this area would be targeted \u2014 there’s no big flash houses, not many Lamborghinis or Ferraris around here.”<\/p>\n
