A man wanted by NSW Police has died in hospital from injuries sustained after he was detained by two members of the public on the state’s Far North Coast.<\/p>\n

Police say the 34-year-old man, who was the subject of a dozen outstanding arrest warrants, was confronted by residents on Bellevue Avenue at Bray Park, near Murwillumbah, at about 4:40am last Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Police were called to the scene following reports of someone acting suspiciously, and found a man with serious injuries being detained by two males on the footpath.<\/p>\n

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition.<\/p>\n

Police have now revealed he died in hospital on Friday.<\/p>\n

Detectives attached to Strike Force Raison are investigating the incident<\/a> and have spoken to a number of people who were at the scene.<\/p>\n

Detective Sergeant Gary Sheehan from the Tweed-Byron Police District told reporters last week that a man had been “seen to be acting suspiciously by concerned neighbours”.<\/p>\n

“They’ve gone out and confronted the male, and we know that an altercation has taken place,” he said.<\/p>\n

“There was some suggestion that there were objects used as part of the altercation, but I can’t confirm what those were, as it’s part of the investigation.”<\/p>\n
