Mr Hodara said during a phone call with organisers shortly after the draw.

“I was surprised, that’s it … When you bet on this, you don’t expect to win.”

Launched in 2013, the “1 Picasso for 100 euros” raffle aims to support charities by giving participants a chance to win an original work by the famed Spanish artist.

Mr Hodara described himself as an art amateur fond of Picasso and said he bought his ticket over the weekend after learning about the charity raffle by chance during a restaurant meal.

“First, I will tell the news to my wife, who has yet to return from work,”
