The Vancouver Canucks beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in\u00a0overtime in their final home game of the season at Rogers Arena.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Canucks stacked wins down the stretch, playing with confidence and\u00a0fighting for each other. In their third\u00a0win\u00a0in\u00a0a row,\u00a0Head Coach Adam Foote\u00a0said he was proud of the team for pulling out a win against a heavy L.A. team\u00a0jockeying for playoff positioning.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re doing things right.\u00a0We’re\u00a0playing as a team,\u201d Foote said.\u00a0\u201cThey’re\u00a0sticking to the game plan, and what I like is every game’s got a time where\u00a0it’s\u00a0not going to go your way, there’s\u00a0going to be a swing.\u00a0Maybe six\u00a0weeks ago,\u00a0probably before\u00a0the break,\u00a0you’d\u00a0see us,\u00a0maybe let\u00a0two quick ones in.\u00a0It happened tonight, where we got up and then they got a quick one, and we\u00a0didn’t\u00a0panic or get off our game\u00a0\u2013\u00a0that’s\u00a0a sign of growth.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jake\u00a0DeBrusk\u00a0scored two goals\u00a0in the win, including the goal in overtime.\u00a0He echoed Foote\u2019s sentiment that\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0weathering the\u00a0ups and downs\u00a0of a full 60 minutes\u00a0as a group.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Obviously,\u00a0it’s only a couple of games here, but against teams\u00a0that\u00a0are\u00a0fighting for playoff spots, it doesn’t make it any easier,\u201d\u00a0DeBrusk\u00a0said.\u00a0\u201cSo\u00a0probably guys, especially younger guys, know the younger\u00a0defencemen,\u00a0Fil\u00a0goes in the box, they\u00a0logged\u00a0some good minutes. You know, when\u00a0the Kings were\u00a0kind of pushing\u00a0there, they wanted to get that in regulation, so positive signs.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Zeev\u00a0Buium\u00a0scored the game-tying goal to send the game into overtime. The Canucks were moving the puck, finding spaces throughout the game,\u00a0and\u00a0Buium\u00a0and Nils\u00a0H\u00f6glander\u00a0connected to force the extra frame.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou’re\u00a0kind of playing\u00a0off instinct, obviously. A guy loses a stick, and you want to take advantage of that. Coming out that\u00a0high,\u00a0you can\u00a0kind of isolate\u00a0him and try to make a move,\u00a0and\u00a0luckily, it worked out.\u00a0We’re\u00a0all making great plays, and\u00a0H\u00f6ggy\u00a0made a great play\u00a0back\u00a0door,\u00a0and all I had to do was\u00a0tap it in,\u00a0so\u00a0it was a great play by all the boys,\u201d\u00a0Buium\u00a0said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Foote liked\u00a0Buium\u2019s\u00a0tenacity and scrappy play,\u00a0and his desire to give the fans something to cheer for on Fan Appreciation Night.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou saw Zeev got knocked down twice, and he got up and he went right back at the guy, he had no fear.\u00a0That’s\u00a0got to be a good feeling for the fans to see that\u00a0he’s\u00a0a\u00a0young guy,\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0going to\u00a0get stronger,\u00a0but\u00a0he’s\u00a0playing tenacious, and\u00a0it’s\u00a0a good sign for the future,\u201d Foote said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
