{"id":608691,"date":"2026-04-15T15:06:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T15:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/608691\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T15:06:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T15:06:13","slug":"channel-4-renews-comedy-thing-youtube-channel-with-pun-battle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/608691\/","title":{"rendered":"Channel 4 Renews Comedy Thing YouTube Channel With &#8216;Pun Battle&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEXCLUSIVE: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/channel-4\/\" id=\"auto-tag_channel-4\" data-tag=\"channel-4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Channel 4<\/a> is returning to its <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/a-comedy-thing\/\" id=\"auto-tag_a-comedy-thing\" data-tag=\"a-comedy-thing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A Comedy Thing<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/youtube\/\" id=\"auto-tag_youtube\" data-tag=\"youtube\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube<\/a> channel for a second year with new formats including Pun Battle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tChannel 4 said A Comedy Thing, which publishes weekly long-form programming for YouTube with up-and-coming comics, has delivered 6.5 million views on YouTube, clocking up 165,000 hours of watch time with an audience mostly under the age of 35.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe second year of the YouTube channel will feature new faces like\u00a0Eric Rushton, the winner of Channel 4\u2019s Sean Lock\u00a02023 Award, Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer Nominee Jin Hao\u00a0and viral star Kyla Cobbler. All seven initial cast from year one are returning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFormats returning include The Lying Game, in which comics must each tell an anecdote about the same randomly selected topic with some lying and some telling the truth, along with new formats like Pun Battle, in which comedians go head-to-head to try and make each other\u00a0laugh with the driest of puns. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe news comes ahead of a Channel 4 comedy event tonight in London that will showcase talent. British TV comedy feels in rude health at present. Prime Video\u2019s Last One Laughing has been a huge hit while the first-ever Saturday Night Live UK has outperformed expectations on Sky. Its <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/04\/snl-uk-host-nicola-coughlan-aimee-lou-wood-bridgerton-1236859197\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">next two hosts<\/a> are Nicola Coughlan and Aimee Lou Wood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCharlie Hyland, Channel 4\u2019s Digital Commissioning Editor, Comedy, said: \u201cWe wanted to build a proper home for new comedy \u2014 somewhere brilliant young stand-ups can try things, sharpen their voice and find an audience. What\u2019s been exciting is seeing that grow into a real community around them. The UK and Ireland have always been at the heart of this kind of comedy, and this is about creating the space to keep doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA Comedy Thing\u00a0is commissioned by Hyland with Laura Marks, Head of Digital Commissioning.
