{"id":609093,"date":"2026-04-15T19:25:37","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T19:25:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/609093\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T19:25:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T19:25:37","slug":"images-give-peak-into-planned-afl-stadiums-surrounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/609093\/","title":{"rendered":"Images give peak into planned AFL stadium&#8217;s surrounds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Renders showing housing, retail spaces and other development around a new $1.13 billion stadium in Hobart have been released as part of the site&#8217;s master plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The divisive 23,000-seat roofed waterfront venue, which was approved by state parliament in December, will be the home of the Tasmania Devils AFL club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The master plan for the Macquarie Point precinct, released on Wednesday, provides impressions of housing and retail areas to be built around the venue.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"stadium\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/c25653b9501a8edd74a7683679c4c54c.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The newly released renders show housing, retail spaces and other development. (PR IMAGE PHOTO)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The plan has two six-floor residential options, one with 93 dwellings and another with 99, while there are two precinct car park options, above and below ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Macquarie Point Development Corporation chief executive Anne Beach told reporters there had been interest in commercial sites, and for a hotel build.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Two companies are in the running to be awarded the tender to construct the stadium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">They are expected to be named shortly as part of the process, with the construction contract to commence in late 2026.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"stadium\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/7cdfb9879be13cd0d2c1d6a8ef34698c.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The two companies in the running to be awarded the tender are set to be named soon. (PR IMAGE PHOTO)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It was recently revealed the stadium&#8217;s completion wouldn&#8217;t be ready until 2031, Tasmania&#8217;s third season in the AFL and AFLW.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The stadium, which was a condition of the Devils securing their licence, sparked protests and rallies from both sides of the fence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We have always championed this vision every step of the way and there is a strategic plan in place to deliver these community outcomes,&#8221; Minister for Macquarie Point Urban Renewal Eric Abetz said.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"stadium\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/24c437b552a5747c8cede864d778e154.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The state government says the urban renewal will revitalise the area.
