Dr Pimple Popper Sandra Lee revealed she suffered a stroke last November while shooting Season 2 of Dr. Pimple Popper: Breaking Out.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had what I thought was a hot flash. I got super sweaty and didn\u2019t feel like myself,\u201d the reality star recalled to People<\/a> in an interview published Wednesday.<\/p>\n Lee told the outlet that after cameras went down, she left her Upland, California, practice and headed straight for her parents\u2019 house. That night, the dermatologist\u2019s symptoms worsened, and by morning, she headed off to the emergency room.<\/p>\n After undergoing an MRI, Lee discovered she had suffered an ischemic stroke, which happens when a vessel supplying blood to the brain is obstructed, according to stroke.org.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat essentially happened is, I had a part of my brain that died. It was just a shock,\u201d the Lifetime star admitted.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a physician, I couldn\u2019t deny that I had slurred speech, that I was having weakness on one side, but I was like, \u2018Well, this is a dream, right?\u2019 More like a living nightmare.\u201d<\/p>\n Filming ultimately halted, and the physician spent two months regaining her balance and movement by undergoing physical and occupational therapy.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t like that I don\u2019t have total control of my left hand, or the grip wasn\u2019t as strong,\u201d she detailed. \u201cIf I feel like I\u2019m not at my best \u2013 it\u2019s very scary.\u201d<\/p>\n Stream Dr. Pimple Popper: Get Poppin\u2019 now BINGE<\/a>, available on Hubbl<\/a>.<\/p>\n Looking back, Lee knows that there were aspects of her health that were not being taken care of.<\/p>\n \u201cMy blood pressure and my cholesterol were not under control, and I have a lot of stress in my life, dealing with my patients and the show,\u201d she confessed, adding that now, she wants \u201cto think about it as a blessing in disguise. Because it reminds you to take better care of yourself.\u201d <\/p>\n However, it was also harrowing to share her experience with the world.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is very stressful to open yourself up,\u201d Lee told People. \u201cEspecially as a surgeon, you always want to show yourself coming from an area of strength.\u201d<\/p>\n The same goes for Asian cultures, according to the skin doctor.<\/p>\n \u201cThey don\u2019t tell people they\u2019ve had a stroke because it can be seen as a sign of weakness,\u201d she divulged. \u201cI want to get the word out that if you have symptoms like I had, make sure you see your doctor.
