It\u2019s safe to say Conor Daly was not happy with the spectacular crash that ended his Portland IndyCar race, which he blamed on Christian Rasmussen.<\/p>\n
Rasmussen – the 2023 Indy NXT champion – certainly is aggressive in his wheel-to-wheel combat and hasn\u2019t always made friends with the way he\u2019s approached his racecraft, especially on ovals. Although, asked about that by The Race earlier this year<\/a> he pointed out he\u2019d had no penalties and other drivers had done stuff he didn\u2019t agree with either.<\/p>\n However, it\u2019s hard to apportion much blame to Daly here.<\/p>\n SCARY INCIDENT FOR CONOR DALY! \ud83d\ude33 pic.twitter.com\/pgpgnMtqQ0<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 NTT INDYCAR SERIES (@IndyCar) August 10, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n Initially, Daly is angry after Rasmussen causes a collision at Turn 7, and then Daly veers across the track towards him as if threatening him with his car, which certainly isn\u2019t wise or advisable but we\u2019ve seen that happen before. This started with Rasmussen.<\/p>\n \u201cHe [Rasmussen] just drives him [Daly] off,\u201d assessed TV commentator James Hinchcliffe. \u201cTotally uncalled for.\u201d<\/p>\n Hinchcliffe later added \u201clet\u2019s call a spade a spade here, Rasmussen\u2019s not made a ton of friends this year in terms of the passing he\u2019s pulled off\u201d.<\/p>\n Rasmussen accepted the blame for that first incident.<\/p>\n \u201cI agree, that was on me,\u201d he said. \u201cI picked up understeer, and my wheel touched his floor in a weird way, which knocked the steering wheel out of my hands. That’s on me. That’s my fault.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s clear in the following lap or so that Daly\u2019s not happy with Rasmussen and then attacks at the fastest corner of the track, Turn 10, where Rasmussen clips Daly\u2019s left-rear and Daly careers over the run-off into the tyre wall at high speed.<\/p>\n \u201cIt felt like that has been coming for a lap, a lap and a half\u201d said Will Buxton, IndyCar\u2019s TV commentator, who was critical of the decision not to penalise Rasmussen in the aftermath.<\/p>\n Not entirely sure I agreed with some of the calls today however. I love the punchiness of Indycar racing but not a fan of running racers out of road or any notion of \u201can eye for an eye.\u201d Penalties for blocking or spinning a rival but not for escalating, race ending red mist? Odd.<\/p>\n \u2014 Will Buxton (@wbuxtonofficial) August 10, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n Daly said on the radio \u201cRasmussen just wrecked us, sorry about that\u201d, and looking at the helicopter shot it is hard to disagree because Daly is almost a whole car ahead. Neither driver wanted to cede ground to the other.<\/p>\n \u201cFor me, that looked like Conor\u2019s corner,\u201d added Fox\u2019s Towsend Bell.<\/p>\n A team member on Rasmussen\u2019s radio accused Daly, saying he \u201cran out of talent\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know what he expected me to do there,\u201d added Rasmussen.<\/p>\n Later he doubled down on that stance that Daly should have backed off.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that\u2019s what you can expect when you try to roll the outside in a corner like that,\u201d Rasmussen said. \u201cHe was driving up into the back of me and then trying to overtake me into Turn 10, which, obviously, others lifted.\u201d<\/p>\n Purposefully wrecking someone in a 150mph corner is just pure insanity.
