Carlton coach Michael Voss moved to console a \u201cpretty emotional\u201d Elijah Hollands after his performance in Thursday night\u2019s narrow loss to Collingwood.<\/p>\n
Hollands was given a kick after the siren on a recount but initially finished the game without a single statistic.<\/p>\n
The clean stat sheet prompted a slew of videos posted online showing Hollands struggling away from the ball during the match.<\/p>\n
Voss said Hollands cut a \u201cshattered\u201d figure post game.<\/p>\n
\u201cI spoke to him after the game, he was really disappointed with how he started the game, really upset, he feels like he\u2019s let me down,\u201d Voss said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had a good chat with him, he was pretty emotional after the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe didn\u2019t play a great game and he struggled to get his way into it, he was clearly really disappointed with his performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously with the importance of the night he feels like he\u2019s let people down, we\u2019ve just got to keep supporting people through those situations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hollands had played 75 per cent of the game until three-quarter time but he was benched for most of the final quarter as Collingwood mowed down the Blues.<\/p>\n
Voss said he was not concerned by any of Hollands\u2019 movements.<\/p>\n
\u201cOther than that, he was clearly disappointed with himself and clearly disappointed with how he was playing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt comes to the last quarter, you obviously have to work out what mix you want out on the field with five minutes to go.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe wasn\u2019t having a great night, so (we had) conversations with him, but we obviously thought the best mix was not have him out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Blues had a chance to sneak away with a draw through Talor Byrne after the siren but the fourth-gamer skewed his kick. <\/p>\n
Voss said he was proud of how his players reacted to the missed opportunity.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s understanding it\u2019s not all on the young man\u2019s shoulders,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s probably rehearsed that 2000 times\u2026 he didn\u2019t quite obviously get the job done but the boys rallied. You win together, you lose together.\u201d<\/p>\n
