and the league is now also facing a complaint lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on the matter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\"><a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-04-09\/gamegear-helmet-neuroscience-investigation\/106534722\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106534722\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">After the ABC reported on GameGear&#8217;s headgear<\/a>, the company removed from its website promotional claims about its ability to protect players from concussion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Another claim, that the helmet&#8217;s force reduction reduced &#8220;the risk of concussion&#8221; when compared to other headgear, has also been removed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The GameGear headgear is being sold for $215 while its efficacy is still being studied, in a move that has been branded as &#8220;potentially dangerous&#8221; the company&#8217;s statement said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;GameGear has been developed with the objective of addressing this gap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;To rigorously assess real-world outcomes, it is currently subject to an independently administered study led by head trauma researchers at Monash University, involving 600 players over two years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;This trial aims to detect significant changes in impact force reduction and concussion as a result of wearing the GameGear helmet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;With this level of ambition comes scrutiny, and, as a new company, GameGear is happy to review marketing materials to ensure there is no misunderstanding between laboratory findings and real-game performance, which remain the focus of the Monash University study.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Irresponsible and outright dangerous&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Meanwhile, AFL player manager Peter Jess, a long-time advocate for footballer safety, penned a complaint to the ACCC and has also alleged the league had misled the public in creating its new headgear standards, which were launched in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">GameGear is the only headgear to have satisfied the standards so far.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In a four-page letter of complaint to ACCC chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb, Mr Jess requests the body &#8220;prosecutes&#8221;
