PITTSBURGH — \u2014 James Wood<\/a> singled to score automatic runner Jorbit Vivas<\/a> in the 10th inning and the Washington Nationals<\/a> beat the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> 8-7 on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Reliever Clayton Beeter<\/a> (1-0) got his first career win despite giving up the ninth-inning run that sent the game to an extra inning. Brandon Lowe<\/a> hit an infield single to score Jake Mangum<\/a>, who Beeter walked.<\/p>\n

Dennis Santana<\/a> (2-1) pitched the top of the 10th for the Pirates.<\/p>\n

Orlando Ribalta<\/a> earned his first career save.<\/p>\n

The Nationals scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Rookie shortstop <\/a>Konnor Griffin<\/a> had a throwing error that scored the first three. Luis Garc\u00eda Jr. grounded into a fielder’s choice and Griffin was unable to tag second in time before he threw wildly to first base. Drew Millas<\/a>, Vivas and Nasim Nu\u00f1ez all scored.<\/p>\n

The Pirates challenged Nu\u00f1ez’s slide to second for any illegal contact, but the call was upheld.<\/p>\n

Garcia scored on a throwing error by Braxton Ashcraft<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Pirates responded in the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own. Oneil Cruz<\/a> hit a double to score Billy Cook<\/a>, and then Marcell Ozuna<\/a> hit a three-run home run.<\/p>\n

Joey Wiemer<\/a> doubled in the sixth to break the tie for the Nationals.<\/p>\n

Griffin hit his first career triple in the sixth to score a run.<\/p>\n
