{"id":611928,"date":"2026-04-17T01:36:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T01:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/611928\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T01:36:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T01:36:19","slug":"triple-eight-explains-latest-cool-suit-issues-in-taupo-after-sydney-failures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/611928\/","title":{"rendered":"Triple Eight explains latest cool suit issues in Taup\u014d after Sydney failures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering says a process shortcoming on its part was behind its latest cool suit dramas.<\/p>\n<p>Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1292-Will-Brown\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Will Brown<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1545-Broc-Feeney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Broc Feeney<\/a> suffered extreme overheating in the Sunday race at Sydney Motorsport Park.<\/p>\n<p>That caught Triple Eight on the hop, having previously found the Chillout Motorsports electric systems to be near-on bulletproof.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe old dry ice box, that was hit and miss. Every eight or nine runs you\u2019d have an issue with it, where this has been absolutely faultless for us for three years straight, a fantastic system,\u201d team principal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1-Jamie-Whincup\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jamie Whincup<\/a> told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just had two internal failures on the one day, it was so strange.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was almost a race-stopper. Any hotter a day, or any longer a race, I think both cars would have had to come into the lane to either get the windows ripped out or a DNF.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Triple Eight responded by outlaying a total of $24,000 for two new units\u2026 so when cool suit issues reared their head again in the longer Taup\u014d race (to the point where Brown again ended up in the medical centre post-race), alarm bells were sounding.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/1-43-scale-2026-sydney-500-race-1-winner-88-ford-mustang-broc-feeney-model-pre-order?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/ACD18F26EWebsite_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But somewhat to the team\u2019s relief, the cause this time around was far more preventable for the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe SMP ones were clear failures in the units,\u201d team manager Mark Dutton told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the second race in Taup\u014d, the boys had different cool suit vests on\u2026 usually what we\u2019d do is pre-bleed the vests but with the quick turnaround we didn\u2019t pre-bleed them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it actually drained the fluid in the reservoirs in the cool suit units, which they have got an in-built safety mechanism that if the fluid level is too low, they\u2019ll cut in and out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why Will\u2019s was cutting in and out a lot, Broc\u2019s was cutting in and out a little bit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no failure; it was a failure of process on our side.
