Jamie Murray reached No. 1 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings.

Jamie Murray<\/a>, the former No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, announced his retirement on social media Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy tennis journey comes to an end after 36 years,\u201d the seven-time major champion wrote in an Instagram post. \u201cI feel very fortunate and privileged for all the amazing experiences this great sport has given me.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks Mum, Dad, Andy, Ale, Alan, Louis and Thomas for all your incredible support, efforts and sacrifices throughout my career that allowed me to achieve everything I could in the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray won 34 tour-level titles during his career, two of them with his brother Andy Murray<\/a>, and became the first British player to rise to World No. 1 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings. The 40-year-old last competed at the US Open<\/a> in 2025 alongside Ivan Dodig<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Scot claimed his first ATP Tour crown in 2007 at San Jose alongside Eric Butorac<\/a>. From 2007-2024, the lefty earned at least one trophy in 16 of 18 seasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor everybody else that\u2019s helped\/supported me – I appreciate all of you!” Murray wrote. “Excited to enter the real world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\u201cATP<\/a><\/p>\n

Twelve of Murray\u2019s tour-level titles came alongside Brazilian Bruno Soares<\/a>. They won majors at the Australian Open<\/a> and US Open<\/a> together in 2016 and competed at the Nitto ATP Finals<\/a> four times<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a special moment,\u201d Soares told ATPTour.com. \u201cFirst, I want to congratulate Jamie on everything. No. 1 in the World, Grand Slam winner, Davis Cup winner. So many huge achievements. But also for me, just to be able to share so many of those moments with him. On court and off court, Jamie has been one of my best friends on Tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter we started playing together, we combined everything we had off court and used that chemistry on court to be extremely successful. There are many great moments in six years, but the 2016 season stands out, as we finished No. 1 in the World, won two Grand Slams, and secured a couple of other major titles. It is very emotional to think about and very honoured and privileged to be able to share so many nice moments together with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray also qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals<\/a> with John Peers<\/a> in 2015. They won eight tour-level titles together.<\/p>\n

“What Jamie has accomplished is amazing!” Peers said. “He has been World No. 1, Grand Slam champion, Davis Cup winner and it is an absolute credit to him!<\/p>\n

“I was lucky enough to share the court with Jamie for many years together and it allowed us to have many amazing times on and off the court. Jamie was my first partner on the ATP Tour and also the one I shared my first title with in Houston – that was very special. When I look back on what Jamie accomplished, it is one amazing career and to be able to share some of those memories with him is a real honour and privilege.”<\/p>\n

Australian star Matthew Ebden<\/a> also enjoyed success with Murray on court, with the pair triumphing in Winston-Salem in 2022. The 38-year-old Ebden was full of praise for the Scot.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an absolute pleasure to partner with Jamie the times that I did,\u201d Ebden told ATPTour.com. \u201cWe even won a title together, which was really fun and special. However, getting to know Jamie over the years and watching how professional he was, as well as how genuine and upstanding a guy he is, with his many morals and good ethics, was amazing. The way he carried himself on and off the court was a joy to see and an inspiration to see from such a world-class athlete.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe achieved everything in doubles, but to be such a great guy was something that really stood out for me in getting to know Jamie and calling him a friend. I look forward to crossing paths with him still in the tennis world, and I wish him and his family all the very best.\u201d<\/p>\n
