Image: InSyde Media <\/p>\n<p>The policy is being introduced for the Ruapuna event alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2026-christchurch-super440-new-pit-lane-rules-double-stacking-safety-car-procedure-update-details\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">regulations banning double-stacking in pit lane.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Supercars is preventing teams from having both cars in lane at any given time in response to concerns over the tight nature of the pits.<\/p>\n<p>That rule would ordinarily have major implications should a Safety Car be called, leaving teams to pit one car and have the other stuck behind the SC.<\/p>\n<p>However, Supercars motorsport boss Tim Edwards has confirmed to Speedcafe the intention of delaying the deployment of the Safety Car onto the circuit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSubject to anything serious happening on track, the intention is we\u2019ll hold the Safety Car [deployment] for one lap,\u201d said Edwards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat allows the second car in every team [to pit] and doesn\u2019t compromise their strategy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/4cq9M8W\" style=\"color:#f06d25;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Click here <\/a>to see what it takes to build the Gold Coast street circuit <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you just fired the Safety Car [onto the track], then those 12 cars are essentially out of the race. This keeps all 24 cars actively in the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously through the slow zone, they\u2019ve still got to slow down to the appropriate speed through the double-waved yellows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The policy of delaying a Safety Car deployment was previously experimented with when Full Course Yellow rules were introduced in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Various iterations of FCY, 80km\/h slowdowns and slow zones were subsequently used, before being dumped in favour of a traditional yellow flag system.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards said speeds past an incident while under Safety Car conditions will continue to be monitored by officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way the Safety Car rule is, where the double-waved yellows are, you\u2019ve got to slow to 50 percent of your speed, or 80km\/h,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s no different to how we\u2019ve been policing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fcttn.com\/products\/v8s-in-nz-tee\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-bid=\"1\" data-no-instant=\"1\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/3-1.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Action from practice at the Christchurch Super440.
