Earlier this week, in a post<\/a> on her b.sides (formerly 360.brat) Instagram account, Charli XCX<\/a> alluded to the existence of new music. She\u2019s now confirmed that her proper follow-up to 2024\u2019s Brat<\/a> is on the way in a new British Vogue<\/a> cover story, and what\u2019s more, it\u2019s apparently a rock album. \u201cI think the dance floor is dead,\u201d Charli tells Pitchfork contributor Laura Snapes, \u201cso now we\u2019re making rock music.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the profile, the new album is described as guitar-forward, with Charli\u2019s distinctive Auto-Tune largely absent. \u201cWe were doing our version of analogue, which is so silly and funny,\u201d she says. Brat producers A.G. Cook and Finn Keane, formerly known as Easyfun, returned for the recording sessions, which took place in Paris during Fashion Week last month.<\/p>\n

The story does not reveal a title, but does quote lyrics from the album that center on Charli\u2019s relationship to making art \u201cand what would happen if that was taken from me\u201d: \u201cI can take you to heaven like it\u2019s 2007\/Pop star in my bedroom like it\u2019s 2007\u201d; \u201cI can feel all the things I don\u2019t normally feel.\u201d \u201cNothing\u2019s gonna last forever\/And no one\u2019s gonna last forever,\u201d goes one line that appears on a song in part about the aftermath of Brat.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Charli discusses her burgeoning acting career, which has included roles in Daniel Goldhaber\u2019s Faces of Death<\/a> remake, Gregg Araki\u2019s forthcoming I Want Your Sex<\/a>, and her own mockumentary, The Moment<\/a>. It was apparently Goldhaber who convinced Charli to take on her first onscreen role in a live-action, scripted film. “I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever felt like, \u2018Wow, I killed that,\u2019\u201d she tells Snapes. \u201cI feel ready to do it 1,000 times if necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of The Moment, which was filmed during her arena tour in support of Brat, Charli says, \u201cGoing through this widening of my audience has made me aware of how you can sometimes get made into these bullet points\u2026[and] that\u2019s not something I\u2019m shocked or even bothered by. Obviously, that happens\u2014it\u2019s cool when you can draw a cartoon of someone in that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

In February, Charli shared her companion album<\/a> for Emerald Fennell\u2019s film adaptation of Wuthering Heights<\/a>, which featured guest contributions from John Cale and Sky Ferreira. Taking to social media earlier this month, Ferreira insinuated<\/a> that some of the songs on Wuthering Heights were in fact re-recorded versions of her own demos. Charli\u2019s management subsequently clarified that, while some tracks included \u201cmaterial from earlier sessions,\u201d the breakdown of credits had been agreed upon in writing prior to the album\u2019s release.<\/p>\n
