{"id":612523,"date":"2026-04-17T08:17:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T08:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/612523\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T08:17:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T08:17:08","slug":"bali-kuta-beach-construction-project-set-to-halt-coastal-erosion-near-completion-despite-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/612523\/","title":{"rendered":"Bali Kuta Beach: Construction project set to halt coastal erosion near completion despite challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Known for its wide golden sands and beachside hotel resorts, Kuta is one of the most famous beaches in <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/news\/bali?page=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bali<\/a> but over the past few months construction has disturbed its usual tranquil vibe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Like many other areas of the Indonesian coastline, the south shores of Bali are experiencing major coastal erosion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">For more than a decade, erosion prevention measures and conservation efforts have been underway but with the ocean continuing to encroach on the sand, Balinese authorities have begun to building breakwaters along the beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Construction of the new breakwaters along Kuta Beach is nearing the finish line, with the project on track for completion by the end of April \u2014 however, unpredictable sea conditions could still cause delays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Officials say four of the five structures are already complete, with the final section about 75 per cent finished and targeting completion by April 25.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe have five breakwaters under construction. Four are already 100 per cent complete,\u201d project officer Bambang Kardono told <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/thebalisun.com\/beach-upgrade-project-set-to-be-completed-by-peak-season-in-bali-tourist-resort\/\">The Bali Sun.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cNow, the only remaining breakwater is BW5, which is about 75 per cent done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Work has been temporarily halted due to \u201cmanda\u201d sea conditions \u2014 where water levels sit too high for safe machinery use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe haven\u2019t been able to work for three days because the sea level is \u2018manda\u2019, so it\u2019s not possible to continue,\u201d Mr Kardono said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Crews are expected to return to site from Friday after fuel supply issues were resolved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Tourists visiting Kuta Beach can expect to see and hear construction activity through to the end of the month, although authorities say disruption will be kept to a minimum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIf there are no obstacles, we are optimistic it will be completed on target,\u201d Mr Kardono added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe hope this project will reduce coastal erosion and ensure the safety and sustainability of the area.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Known for its wide golden sands and beachside hotel resorts, Kuta is one of the most famous beaches&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":612524,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[22],"tags":[64,63,13146,75,44,128],"class_list":["post-612523","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-bali","tag-environment","tag-news","tag-science"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/612523","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=612523"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/612523\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/612524"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=612523"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=612523"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=612523"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
