Paying Scott Drinkwater $1 million a season would be a “bargain” for the Dragons<\/a>, according to Andrew Johns.<\/p>\n

The Saints have endured a horror winless start to the year, two players have recently requested early releases and disillusioned fans are planning a mass protest at an upcoming game<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The struggling club identified Drinkwater as a priority signing but he rejected their first offer.<\/a> They are looking at reworking the deal and Johns has urged the club to pay seven figures to secure his services.<\/p>\n

“If the Dragons get him for a million dollars a year for three years, that’s a bargain,” he said on Wide World of Sports’ Immortal Behaviour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“They need desperately some creativity and he can do that from fullback. He’s coming into that sweet spot, the next four years he’s gonna be at his best.<\/p>\n

“So George Illawarra fans, if you get Drinkwater, it’s a real plus. He looks like a bloke that just gets out there and plays.<\/p>\n

“But as long as it’s not played out in the media by these managers, if you’re gonna go just sign it, get it done.”<\/p>\n

Fullback remains a key area of focus for the club, with the Dragons looking for more speed around the ruck.<\/p>\n

Veteran skipper Clint Gutherson is expected to remain at the club but will most likely be moved to another role in 2027.<\/p>\n

Drinkwater remains one of the most sought-after players on the open market, with rival clubs including the Perth Bears and several Sydney-based teams also monitoring his situation closely.<\/p>\n

The current situation at the Dragons won’t help their cause in trying to recruit Drinkwater.<\/p>\n
