<\/p>\nArtificial intelligence is having a significant impact on our daily lives and how we interact with the services sector.<\/p>\n
For instance, how we deal with the legal profession is changing rapidly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Typically, having a lawyer assess your case, for example, comes with many administrative tasks that take time to complete.<\/p>\n

“So, a client asks us to either defend a matter or to advise on a matter,” Hicksons partner David Fischl told The Business.<\/p>\n
“And with that request comes a big pile of documents.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“So currently, the way a lot of law firms do it is you have junior lawyers that go through those documents to find the important needles in the haystack.”<\/p>\n
Now, Mr Fischl said, that task was a lot quicker with the use of AI to scan documents.<\/p>\n

Hicksons also used AI to redact personal details of people contained throughout thousands of pages.<\/p>\n
“AI is now able to assist with that job and find the items faster and also point them out to the junior lawyers, so they’ll actually learn faster too,” Mr Fischl said.<\/p>\n
The Federal Court is also embracing the technology, but insists it must be used responsibly.<\/p>\n
Changing face of customer service<\/p>\n
In the insurance sector, comparison website Compare Club said AI was helping customers find the right coverage faster.<\/p>\n
“The game changer with AI, say, between just choosing something online is the fact that it allows a conversation,” Compare Club’s Kate Browne said.<\/p>\n

“So, our digital assistant has every health insurance policy, all the compliance ticked off and all the detail behind that, not only to help that customer choose a product, but choose the right product for them depending on their health needs, their age, their tax status, and actually make a proper recommendation.”<\/p>\n
The superannuation sector is also looking at the rise of robots to determine how such technology can help members.<\/p>\n
The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) wants to automate elements of financial planning, which, so far, have only been done by humans.<\/p>\n

“The exciting thing might be that AI might be able to help them decide what next step to take,” ASFA CEO Mary Delahunty said.<\/p>\n
“So, prompts about not just combining your super, but what’s the next decision that person might need to make? What sort of insurance do they have? Does it match their lifestyle? What sort of investment do they want? Does it match their risk profile?<\/p>\n
“I think there’s even more that AI could be doing that will help members make really good choices about their super.”<\/p>\n
Australia behind the eight ball on AI<\/p>\n
The federal government released its national AI plan<\/a> in December 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n But it is the gap between what AI is doing and what it could be doing that is concerning government-sponsored networking firm Asialink Business.<\/p>\n Chief executive Catherine Mudford said Australia needed to look at what Asian countries were doing in the AI space.<\/p>\n Catherine Mudford believes Australia is not competitive enough in the development of AI. (ABC News: Patrick Rocca)<\/p>\n “So, looking at \u2026 moving away from just thinking, and taking action,” she said.<\/p>\n “If we look to China with their focus on AI, they have a policy ambition that says that there will be 70 per cent adoption of AI across key sectors like manufacturing and health by 2027 and 90 per cent by 2030.<\/p>\n “That ambition is phenomenal and we have some catching up to do in that space.”<\/p>\n Ms Mudford said she would like to see Australia build infrastructure such as data centres by using green energy.\u00a0<\/p>\n “Australia has some bold and innovative thinking, and it’s really time to move,” she told The Business.<\/p>\n Is AI a threat to entry-level jobs?<\/p>\n According to employment website SEEK, demand for AI-related skills has increased by 80 per cent since early 2024.<\/p>\n But the shift to AI is also coming at the cost of other jobs.<\/p>\n While official figures show the unemployment rate held steady in March at 4.3 per cent<\/a>, economists warn it is set to rise from here.<\/p>\n![\"A](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/396c458cf5fe91669d4ba10c10aeb77d.jpeg\")
