The AFL has today requested Carlton to, once concluded, provide the outcome of its review of the circumstances relating to Elijah Hollands\u2019 fitness to play in Thursday night\u2019s match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe AFL will continue to make inquiries with the club in relation to the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Article<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/sport\/afl\/for-michael-voss-and-carlton-this-is-much-worse-than-blowing-another-lead-20260417-p5zovz.html\" tabindex=\"-1\" class=\"sc-cba76dee-0 hdiTqm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Voss and Hollands leave the field.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1776460457_788_c9e99529b9cb73176b17840f8184f5330f925a4e.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d34e428-1 ioInpc\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hollands, 23, has a history of mental health and anxiety issues, and had <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/sport\/afl\/voss-wraps-his-arms-around-shattered-blue-while-daicos-shines-brightest-on-milestone-night-20260416-p5zold.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told the Blues before the match<\/a> he had struggled to sleep.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by this masthead, a source familiar with the incident, not authorised to speak about it, said Hollands was aware he was having issues during the match, but he had been able to deal with these similar issues in the past.<\/p>\n<p>The Blues said post-match they had monitored Hollands\u2019 heartbeat in the second half of the game. They had two doctors and a nurse at the game, while coach Michael Voss and football department chief Chris Davies were also in the change room.<\/p>\n<p>The AFL, the Blues, the AFL Players\u2019 Association, mental health experts and Hollands\u2019 manager have held discussions about the incident. Hollands\u2019 health remained the major focus for all the parties on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Kane, who also has health as part of her remit as executive general manager of AFLW and football operations, has been in regular contact with Blues chief executive Graham Wright, the AFL confirmed to this masthead on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The Blues could face disciplinary action from the AFL should the league find they failed to handle Hollands in the required manner. The club said on Friday Hollands, who spent time away from the club last year, had not been under the influence of drugs. A WorkSafe spokeswoman said on Saturday no complaint had been lodged.<\/p>\n<p>Hollands\u2019 former teammate, Sam Docherty, said on Saturday he had reached out to him in a bid to help him through this difficult period. Because, ultimately, he\u2019s [under] the bright lights and the big stage, everyone watching on the screen, with the issues he has had, and then everyone starts to judge off the back of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Age in October last year, Hollands spoke about asking for help after using alcohol to cope with anxiety.
