We focused on that with (Alofiana) this week and I’m so pleased that he gets to celebrate this win.

“He’s really brought into what we’re doing. He should be really proud of his moments, after those really good finishes. He has high standards which is what you want as a coach and he’ll only improve.”

A bullocking try from five-eighth Chanel Harris-Tavita and a follow-up effort from winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak in the 10 minutes prior to the break ensured that the Warriors’ run in the NRL’s top four remained.

‘Some moments we would like back’ | 08:10

THE CONQUERORS

Eat. Sleep. Beat the streak

It’s a mantra the Warriors have personified in recent weeks after shaking several monkeys off their backs.

Wins against the perennial strugglers Gold Coast have been hard to come by for the Warriors in recent years.

A near-perfect first half was enough for the Warriors to seal their first home win against the Titans in seven seasons, and comes a week after ending an 11-year losing run against the Melbourne Storm.

Maintaining two-thirds of possession, the Warriors managed only one error and almost double the run metres in the first 40 minutes to set up an unassailable lead by the break.

It was nowhere near as pretty in the second half – with lock Erin Clark’s wrap-around try-scoring effort in the 53rd minute the only highlight – though the damage was already done.

‘Privilege to work with this group’ | 04:56

LEFT TO LAMENT

Six days removed from a lights-out performance against Parramatta, the Titans’ poor start has left them wondering ‘what if?’.

The club has become synonymous with taking one step forward and two steps back for the better part of two decades and their narrow eight-point defeat across the ditch was no different.

Seven first half errors forced the Titans into making 70 more tackles than the Warriors, leaving them rudderless in rare opportunities of good territory.

While it was a different story in the second half – with tries to Jojo Fifita, Sialetili Faeamani, Arama Hau and Kurtis Morrin coming in quick succession – they never looked likely to seal a last gasp victory.

Noting a lesser team would have pulled up stumps in the second half, Titans coach Josh Hannay praised his side in defeat.

“The growth and connection in the players and in the group is growing exponentially. If they don’t have a strong connection out there then that game gets away from them,” Hannay said.

“They don’t know how to quit which makes them incredibly proud to coach them.”

The bye couldn’t come at a better time for Hannay’s men who will look to address their poor start and finally take that elusive step forward out of the competition’s bottom four for the first time in a year.

FOX LAB STATS

– Consecutive wins for Warriors over the Titans – they snap a three game losing streak against them at Go Media Stadium.

– The Warriors led 28-4 after 68 minutes.

– Only the sixth time the Warriors have started a season with 5 or more wins through seven games – they made the finals on all five previous occasions.

– The Warriors 22-0 half time lead was their biggest since 2023, and their biggest to nil since 2019.

– The Warriors completed 35/37 sets (95%) – their second 90+ match this season, and fifth since 2024.

– Wayde Egan was placed on report early in the match for a high tackle. He has no charges since 2020.

– Sialetili Faeamani was placed on report for a late tackle in the 3rd minute of the game. He has no prior charges.

– Keano Kini left the field late with a possible rib injury after a heavy tackle.

– Alofiana Khan-Pereira scored 2 tries in a match for the 18th time in his career – first for Warriors. Busted a career high 10 tackles.

Fox Lab POTM – Another powerful 80 minute performance from Jackson Ford. 24 runs for 180 metres, 53 post contact metres, 5 tackle busts, 47 tackles.

RELIVE ALL THE ACTION IN OUR BLOG BELOW.
