Dragons star Jaydn Su\u2019A is facing a lengthy stint on the sideline after being sent off for an ugly high shot during his side\u2019s loss to Souths.<\/a><\/p>\n

The first player to be sent off since Justin Olam in August 2024, Su\u2019A cannoned out of line and made contact to Murray\u2019s head.<\/p>\n

Dragons skipper Damien Cook didn\u2019t believe there was any malice in the hit. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think he just got it wrong,\u201d Cook said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI can see what he was trying to do, but he just got it completely wrong.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew what he was trying to do and make a difference and get the ball and maybe force an error when we were down this end.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what happens when you are in a position like this where we haven\u2019t won games and pressure builds up and sometimes we go out of our systems and do the wrong thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Under fire Dragons coach Shane Flanagan, who is hanging onto his job by a thread after a seventh straight loss to start the season, didn\u2019t give much when asked about the tackle. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know, to be honest, I had so many things running through my head and didn\u2019t look at it too many times \u2026 I\u2019ll have to look at it again,\u201d Flanagan responded when asked if Su\u2019A deserved to be sent off. <\/p>\n

While there were a couple of good signs from Flanagan\u2019s men, it was mostly a pretty dirty night.<\/p>\n

In a precursor of what was about to happen, the Dragons lost starting hooker Jacob Liddle after he suffered a hamstring injury in the warm up.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen things are going bad, they\u2019re going bad,\u201d Flanagan surmised.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a plan to give Lids a start and when things are going bad, they sure do.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a horror 2026 for Flanagan. He\u2019s on the hottest of seats at the moment and has had to see his name in the headlines for weeks.<\/p>\n

The veteran coach understands the pressure and spotlight but still believes he\u2019s the right man to lead the Dragons out of this hole.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course it puts pressure on. It puts me and the club under pressure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not winning footy games and I understand that. It\u2019s a business of winning and we\u2019re not winning. <\/p>\n

\u201cI get to work every day and all I can do is do my best to prepare the players the best I can, and if it doesn\u2019t work and they decide to make another decision, well I\u2019ve just got to live with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s done everything he can. It\u2019s up to us,\u201d Cook added when asked what the players can do to help their coach out.<\/p>\n
