Just as Bell ended his sentence, McLaughlin spun into the tyre barrier.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat were we just saying? That was the commentator\u2019s curse,\u201d said co-commentator James HInchcliffe.<\/p>\n
\u201cI blame you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bell replied,\u201d I take 50 percent of the blame for that right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
McLaughlin ended practice in second overall, while Will Power was fastest for Andretti Global on a 1:07.6053s and 0.1861s ahead of his former Team Penske stablemate.<\/p>\n
Speaking after the incident, McLaughlin<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, I felt like I got a denied downshift. It was a bit unfortunate,\u201d said McLaughlin.<\/p>\n
\u201cGoing in there you\u2019re committing pretty high, but I probably should have\u2026 looking back at it now, didn\u2019t have much time because it was sliding for a long time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grabbed a gear and then it just locked the rear tyre. Bit of a passenger, car\u2019s super good.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we\u2019ve got a rocketship this weekend it\u2019s just a matter of putting it together.\u201d<\/p>\n
McLaughlin is in the midst of a 22-race winless streak with his last triumph coming at the Milwaukee Mile in 2024. His best finish at Long Beach is sixth.<\/p>\n
