Stephen Colbert<\/a> has been flooded with messages of support from his fellow late-night hosts after announcing the end of his program The Late Show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During a taping on Thursday, Colbert confirmed the popular talk show had been axed by CBS\ufeff and would be ending in May, the news coming as a shock to the audience.<\/p>\n

“It’s not just the end of the show, it is the end of the Late Show on CBS. I’m not being replaced, this is all just going away,” he said, as audience members booed.<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert’s peers are as shocked as he is that The Late Show has been axed. (CBS)<\/p>\n

Fellow talk show hosts have voiced their shock\ufeff over the news, with Jimmy Kimmel taking an especially blunt approach.<\/p>\n

“Love you Stephen. F–k you and all your Sheldons CBS,” the Jimmy Kimmel Live host wrote, seemingly referring to the network’s Big Bang Theory spinoffs.<\/p>\n

However, it seems one person is celebrating the end of The Late Show: Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

A frequent target of the Colbert’s comedy, the US president said on Truth Social that he “absolutely loves” that the host “got fired.”<\/p>\n

“His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!” Trump added.<\/p>\n

Three days before he was told the show was being axed, Colbert spoke out on-air against \ufeffthe parent company of CBS, Paramount, settling a lawsuit with Trump over a 60 Minutes story, labelling it “a big fat bribe”<\/p>\n

“I am offended,” the comedian said in his monologue during Monday’s show.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know if anything, anything, will repair my trust in this company. But, just taking a stab at it, I’d say $16 million would help.”<\/p>\n

“I’m just as shocked as everyone. Stephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I’d ride this out with him for years to come,” the Tonight Show host wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

“I’m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30.”<\/p>\n

\ufeffNews broadcaster Anderson Cooper dedicated a segment of his show 360 to Colbert, saying he was “shocked and truly saddened” by the cancellation of The Late Show.<\/p>\n

“Stephen Colbert is smart, he is funny, and he has actual conversations with people on\ufeff his program,” he said.<\/p>\n

“He is, at heart, an incredible human being.”<\/p>\n
