Australian superannuation platform MLC<\/a> has discovered the peak month thousands of Aussies make one big life change – switching jobs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to their insights,<\/a> the month most likely to see people make a career change is June, with Australians being five times more likely to change jobs during this month.<\/p>\n

The MLC data<\/a> found that a whopping 13% of people made a job switch<\/a> in June, compared to the quietest month of December, which saw only 2% switch in 2025.<\/p>\n

Plus, more than a third of all job changes<\/a> last year, roughly 34%, happened between June and August.<\/p>\n

And if you’re secretly planning to join that statistic this year, there’s never been more choice, as the\u00a0Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that\u00a0total job vacancies <\/a>were up nearly 3% in February, compared to last November.<\/p>\n

CEO of MLC<\/a> Mike Woodall said: ‘With MLC\u2019s data<\/a> revealing that June is the highest month for job switches<\/a>, it means that for those Australians considering a new role, they\u2019re job hunting now.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vacancies are also at the highest level since November 2024, meaning plenty of options for those considering something new.<\/a><\/p>\n

But there’s also one big mistake job seekers<\/a> are making when applying to new roles.<\/p>\n

An increasing number of people are using AI to write cover letters and resumes.<\/p>\n

Time-saving? Definitely. But employers say they are getting so many applications that sound identical, and it’s often not difficult to spot the AI ones.\u00a0<\/p>\n

U&U Recruitment Partners CEO Craig Sneesby said: ‘Too many people are using AI to write cover letters and resumes. We are getting so many that sound identical. Be the author of your own story and stand out from the crowd.’<\/p>\n

He also has a few other useful tips for job hunters.<\/a><\/p>\n

Sneesby said:\u00a0‘Keep your resume succinct (max 4 pages) and really spell out the responsibilities and quantify the achievements.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘If you are only applying through job boards<\/a> you are a 1% chance of securing a role. Find the specialist recruiter to partner with for your career and build a relationship.’<\/p>\n

Switching jobs<\/a> comes with its own set of things to remember, and while your bank details and TFN might be a given, there’s another thing people often forget.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the most important things Aussies forget when changing roles is checking reviewing their super fund <\/a>which can negatively impact future finances<\/p>\n

A new job is the perfect time to review your super<\/a>, whether you’ve had the same one for years or it’s time for a change<\/a>, to ensure everything is on track.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Woodall said: ‘It\u2019s the perfect time to check that super<\/a> \u2013 one of the biggest assets most people will ever have \u2013 is in the right fund, invested appropriately and has the right insurances for them.’<\/p>\n

‘A quick five\u2011minute check now can make a five\u2011figure difference<\/a> later.’<\/p>\n

Job-switching checklist<\/p>\n

1. Review whether your \u201cstapled\u201d fund is still right for you\u00a0<\/p>\n

Your super <\/a>follows you automatically, but that doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s the best fit for your new industry<\/a>, salary or life stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

2. Understand your new employer\u2019s super benefits\u00a0<\/p>\n

Many workplaces offer super benefits<\/a> like contribution matching, paid insurance premiums, or access to financial education or advice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

3. Compare your existing fund to your new employer\u2019s default\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some employers negotiate lower fees, subsidised insurance or member benefits within their workplace super option<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Make sure to do your research, as there are many things to keep in mind regarding\u00a0your super fund<\/a> and other investments<\/a> when changing jobs.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

He also noted that superannuation<\/a> is one of the main things people miss when changing jobs<\/a>, perhaps thinking there’s no reason to check.<\/p>\n

‘Australians update their bank details and tax file number without thinking twice, but for many, their super<\/a> isn\u2019t on that list. It\u2019s one of the biggest money blind spots during a career move.’<\/a><\/p>\n

‘Your superannuation<\/a> is built day-by-day, decision-by-decision. Every time you start a new job, you\u2019re making one of those decisions \u2013 and it can have a compounding impact <\/a>on your future financial security,’ said Woodall.<\/p>\n

If you’re not sure what you should be looking for, Woodall has some advice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Set aside some time to make sure your super is in the right place<\/a>, that your current fund<\/a> suits your new role, and to compare fees, insurances and long\u2011term investment returns with the fund your new employer<\/a> offers,’ he said.<\/p>\n
