A bus company has stood down a driver after a schoolboy was dragged down a suburban Melbourne street for hundreds of metres after becoming trapped in a door.<\/p>\n

In a social media post, the boy’s mother shared CCTV footage showing her 12-year-old trapped on the outside of the bus as it drove down a street in Wheelers Hill.<\/p>\n

The boy’s mother said the bus continued to travel all the way to the next stop, where it opened its doors, allowing the boy to free himself.<\/p>\n

In a statement, bus company Ventura said the driver’s employment had been terminated following an internal investigation.<\/p>\n

“This is a very distressing incident, and we will continue to support the passenger and family at this time,” a Ventura spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“The safety of our passengers is our priority. We have emphasised our safety protocols with all drivers and will implement a review to enhance driver training programs.”<\/p>\n

A Victoria Police spokesperson said it was aware of the footage and said it believed the incident took place on Brandon Park Drive on March 16.<\/p>\n

“The matter was not reported to police and enquiries are being made,” a police spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Premier Jacinta Allan addressed the incident today and said her thoughts were with the affected family.<\/p>\n

“Every parent wants to make sure their child gets to school safely, and that footage was just a shocking incident,” Ms Allan said.<\/p>\n

“My thoughts are with that young boy and his family and carers, who are clearly distressed.”<\/p>\n

Ms Allan said the government were exploring further avenues for supporting the family.<\/p>\n

“I’ve asked the minister for the Transport Accident Commission, I’ve asked him to direct the TAC to reach out to the family to see what further support can be provided,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It’s clearly had an impact; it will have an impact on him, so we want to reach out and support him and his family network.”<\/p>\n
