{"id":619603,"date":"2026-04-20T17:30:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T17:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/619603\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T17:30:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T17:30:08","slug":"this-week-in-tennis-rybakina-claims-second","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/619603\/","title":{"rendered":"This Week in Tennis: Rybakina Claims Second\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to This Week in Tennis, where we catch up on all the latest and biggest stories from the ATP and WTA Tours.<\/p>\n<p>Rybakina Wins Second Title in Stuttgart<\/p>\n<p>Elena Rybakina continued her very strong season on Sunday, defeating Karolina Muchova 7-5, 6-1 to win the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.<\/p>\n<p>Rybakina\u2019s previous 12 career titles came at 12 different tournaments and Sunday\u2019s win in Stuttgart marked the first repeat title of her career.<\/p>\n<p>The world No. 2 finished the week with a pair of straight-set wins over Muchova and ninth-ranked Mirra Andreeva following a thrilling three-set quarter-final win over Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez, where she saved two match points before rallying for the victory.<\/p>\n<p>The reigning Australian Open champion has two titles this season and 13 in her career. Stuttgart marks her fifth singles title on clay. The two-time Grand Slam champion now has titles in Melbourne and Stuttgart while also reaching the final at Indian Wells, the semifinal in Miami, and the quarter-final in Qatar in 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read also:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tenniscanada.com\/news\/pro-tennis\/2026\/shapovalov-munich-fernandez-stuttgart-friday\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Fernandez Battles in Stuttgart Quarter-final Loss to Rybakina; Shapovalov Out in Munich<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Shelton, Fils Building Momentum<\/p>\n<p>A pair of young guns on the ATP Tour will be rolling into Madrid after impressive weekend wins.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Shelton captured his second title of the season with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Flavio Cobolli in Munich, while Arthur Fils won his first title since 2024 with a 6-2, 7-6(2) victory over Andrey Rublev in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>Shelton\u2019s win was the fifth of his career and second on clay, becoming the first American man to win a title on the surface above the 250-level since Andre Agassi in Rome in 2002.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am happy with my performance this week. I got better and better as the week went on and I am happy with the work me and the team put in,\u201d the 23-year-old Shelton said after the win. \u201cI have big ambitions for the clay courts. It is a surface I want to get better on each year. It&#8217;s been eight months struggling with injury, but now we are back on the court and we have won the trophy.
