The New York Yankees<\/a> are waiting patiently for Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon to return from the injured list and make their season debut.<\/p>\n

But the rest of the starting rotation is handling business while the All-Stars are out. Of course, Max Fried is leading the way.<\/p>\n

Behind Fried, the Yankees have been getting unbelievable performances from their current No. 2 starter. He’s been one of the best pitchers in baseball<\/a> thus far.<\/p>\n

“If you thought Cam Schlittler might be a one-hit wonder after he burst onto the scene to strike out 12 Boston Red Sox<\/a> across eight shutout innings in Game 3 of the ALWCS, his April output has squashed that idea,” Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly wrote<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n

Schlittler leads the Majors in FIP (0.85) and strikeout to walk ratio (12.00 SO\/BB) through his first five starts. He has struck out 36 batters compared to just three walks, and has a 1.95 ERA in 27.2 innings.<\/p>\n

“The 25-year-old’s incredible start to the 2026 season should scare the rest of the league, because while he and Max Fried are already a strong one-two punch, imagine how good this rotation is going to be when both Gerrit Cole (Tommy John surgery) and Carlos Rod\u00f3n (bone spur removal surgery) rejoin Aaron Boone’s club,” Kelly added.<\/p>\n

Schlittler’s next start is against the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Thursday. That’s a game that should be hypercompetitive for the Massachusetts-born hurler.<\/p>\n
