That was a game we just gave them an opportunity to win.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When asked about Cooper\u2019s remarks Monday,\u00a0defenseman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/darren-raddysh-8478178\" title=\"Darren Raddysh\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Darren Raddysh<\/a>\u00a0said, \u201cI think you just don\u2019t take those penalties. We don\u2019t give them chances and maybe it\u2019s a different outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tampa Bay was solid at even strength; it held Montreal to one goal and 10 shots at 5-on-5, including limiting 51-goal scorer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/cole-caufield-8481540\" title=\"Cole Caufield\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cole Caufield<\/a>\u00a0to just one shot on goal at even strength. Canadiens captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/nick-suzuki-8480018\" title=\"Nick Suzuki\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Suzuki<\/a>, who led them during the regular season with 101 points (29 goals, 72 assists), had two assists Sunday but did not have a shot on goal.<\/p>\n<p>But the mental lapses at the end of the second and third period were what inevitably did the Lightning in. At 18:32 of the second, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/conor-geekie-8483447\" title=\"Conor Geekie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Conor Geekie<\/a>\u00a0took a high-sticking penalty and Slafkovsky scored on the power play with 24 seconds remaining in the period to tie it 2-2.<\/p>\n<p>The beginning of the end for Tampa Bay came with 21 seconds remaining in regulation when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/jake-guentzel-8477404\" title=\"Jake Guentzel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jake Guentzel<\/a> clipped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/kaiden-guhle-8482087\" title=\"Kaiden Guhle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kaiden Guhle<\/a>\u00a0in the side of the head with his stick while trying to execute a redirection. Slafkovsky later closed out the game with his third power-play goal.<\/p>\n<p>Slafkovsky\u2019s second power-play goal, which gave the Canadiens a 3-2 lead at 5:56 of the third, came 1:36 after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/anthony-cirelli-8478519\" title=\"Anthony Cirelli\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anthony Cirelli<\/a>\u00a0took him down while the two were chasing a loose puck.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were a couple of things we went over (in practice),\u201d\u00a0Cirelli said. \u201cThe big one is obviously staying out of the penalty box.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Lightning have lost seven straight overtime games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and are 2-10 in their past 12 at home. It&#8217;s a trend that can&#8217;t continue if they want to enjoy a postseason run, but\u00a0Hagel isn&#8217;t ready to hit the panic button yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure what\u2019s going to happen, but the sun did come up,\u201d\u00a0Hagel said again. \u201cIt was only one game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think when you play Game 1, you can grab a bunch of stuff from video and grab a bunch of stuff and kind of implement it in your game. But at the same time, it\u2019s just another hockey game.
