The NRL<\/a> community is sending well-wishes to Broncos prop Corey Jensen amid concerns a blood clot on his lung could be season – and career – threatening. The Broncos revealed on Monday that Jensen had been admitted to hospital<\/a> for scans, which showed a pulmonary embolism.<\/p>\n

The club said Jensen will be out for ‘several weeks’ after he also had a clot in his leg last season. On that occasion he missed four weeks of NRL action, but this time around it appears more serious.<\/p>\n

Leading NRL physio Brien Seeney wrote on social media that “treatment usually involves the use of blood thinners for a period of time, which complicates a return to heavy contact sport due to the risk of internal bleeding.” Some athletes have been advised in the past that they can’t play contact sport for six months after a pulmonary embolism.<\/p>\n

Seeney wrote: “This is a medical emergency that restricts oxygen and blood flow, and can be fatal if left untreated.” The physio said the clot in Jensen’s leg last year is likely “connected”, adding: “When a clot in the leg dislodges, the lungs are often where it ends up.”<\/p>\n

7News Queensland reported on Monday night that Jensen is out “indefinitely”, and the 32-year-old’s “career is on hold”. Jensen has played 153 NRL games to date, helping the Broncos win the NRL premiership in 2025. He’s been an integral cog in Michael Maguire’s premiership-winning forward pack.<\/p>\n

Broncos football boss Troy Thomson told The Courier Mail<\/a> they’re not sure what the future holds for Jensen. “It is a little bit worrying,” Thomson said. “It’s good that we have him in the care of medical people in hospital.<\/p>\n

“He said he was having troubles breathing or feeling a bit heavy in the chest, so we didn’t muck around. We have great medical staff and we sent Corey off to tick all the boxes and they have discovered that pulmonary embolism.<\/p>\n

“It’s something he might be prone to so that’s the part they are investigating at the moment. It’s hard to say at this stage what that means moving forward, but first and foremost he is healthy and has the support and care of good medical staff here.”<\/p>\n

NRL world sends support to Corey Jensen<\/p>\n

Jensen’s hospitalisation adds to a full-blown injury crisis for the Broncos. Payne Haas is out 6-8 weeks<\/a> with a knee injury, while Kotoni Staggs and Jesse Arthars have been added to an injury list that already includes Reece Walsh, Ben Hunt, Billy Walters, Grant Anderson, Aublix Tawha and Blake Mozer.<\/p>\n

Fans have been sending well-wishes to Jensen on social media and hoping for a good outcome.
