Image: Supplied <\/p>\n<p>Ryan Wood falling seven laps short of winning the Jason Richards Trophy stole the headlines after a<a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2026-christchurch-super440-ryan-wood-walkinshaw-twg-toyota-supra\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> superb performance from the Walkinshaw TWG Toyota driver across the two events.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But it also opened the door for Broc Feeney\u2019s Kiwi race engineer Martin Short to enjoy one of the most special triumphs of his career to date.<\/p>\n<p>Originally from Hamilton, Short is the son of racer and motorsport administrator Geoff.<\/p>\n<p>Martin started his own career in the sport as a driver, competing in karting, Formula Ford and NZV8s before going on to establish himself as an engineer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fcttn.com\/products\/v8s-in-nz-tee\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-bid=\"1\" data-no-instant=\"1\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/3-1.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a Kiwi, it means so much to me,\u201d Short told the CoolDown Lap of the JR Trophy triumph.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad used to race him growing up in two-litre touring cars when he first started before he made it to Supercars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I was at the track when I was a baby watching him growing up, basically, so got to know him a little bit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a really special guy and just hearing all the stories in pit lane, he made a huge impact on everyone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I\u2019m so proud of the whole team, Broc, to bring her home. Image: Supplied<\/p>\n<p>Short has worked with Feeney since being paired together in Triple Eight\u2019s Super2 Series program in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve won 29 Supercars Championship races together to date and jointly suffered the heartbreak of last year\u2019s championship defeat.<\/p>\n<p>Short, though, played somewhat of a muted role on Sunday due to persistent communication issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t have good radio comms so I couldn\u2019t do much,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were just trying to get messages on the pit board.
