E\ufeffminem, 52, has opened up about his near fatal overdose back in 2007.<\/p>\n

The famed rapper’s new documentary STANS<\/a> \u2013 named after his hit 2000 song \u2013 is set for release on streaming later this year after having had a limited run in cinemas early August.<\/p>\n

According to People<\/a>, Eminem<\/a> \u2013 whose real name is Marshall Mathers \u2013 shared in the film that he decided to get sober after realising he would “die” otherwise.<\/p>\n

\ufeff”After the overdose, I came home going, ‘Yo, bro, I need something… I’m going to die if I don’t do something,'” Eminem reportedly says in the documentary.<\/p>\n

He shared that he was coming off a “vicious cycle” at the time of the overdose, adding that he was feeling “depressed” and like he “needed more pills”.<\/p>\n

Then, amidst the blur, he found himself one day waking up in the hospital.<\/p>\n

\ufeff”I didn’t how what the f–k happened. It seemed like I fell asleep, and I woke up with tubes in me and s–t. I wanted to get up. I couldn’t move,” the rapper recalled.<\/p>\n

Following his overdose, he made the 2009 album Relapse during the recovery process, however it was released to a “lukewarm” reception.<\/p>\n

“That also turned the lights on and I thought, ‘You’ve gotta do something different. Why don’t you try embracing sobriety?'” He said.<\/p>\n

“I realised I’m not embarrassed anymore about it, and I started treating sobriety like a superpower. I was proud of the fact that I could quit.”<\/p>\n

The Without Me hitmaker celebrated 16 years sober back in April, 2024, taking to Instagram<\/a> to mark the milestone.<\/p>\n

Eminem posted an image of his hand held out, holding a new chip with the number 16 engraved on it.<\/p>\n

STANS was released in cinemas for a limited run from August \ufeff7 to 10, but for fans who missed the theatrical release the documentary will be available to stream on Paramount+ later this year.<\/p>\n
