The new Michael Jackson movie has left the globe divided after its premiere received mostly negative reviews, but Perth fans were left thrilled after a screening at Karrinyup.<\/p>\n
Hoyts Karrinyup came alive with the spirit of the music icon as fans dressed up in Jackson-esque outfits for the premiere of Michael.<\/p>\n
The biopic, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jackson\u2019s nephew Jaafar Jackson, spans from 1966 to 1988, charting Jackson\u2019s origins with the Jackson Five, and then becoming the highest-selling recording artist in the world, all while battling the demons created by his father\u2019s, Joe Jackson (Colman Domingo), physical and emotional abuse.<\/p>\n
While some Perth moviegoers raved about the film that was originally set for release in 2025, not everyone enjoyed the two hour experience with The Nightly\u2019s Wenlei Ma calling it \u201cunwatchable\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven divorced from the accusations that would dog his later life, as a piece of cinema, Michael is so awful at times, you risk physically collapsing into yourself from all the cringing,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
As of Wednesday afternoon, Michael has a 33 per cent \u201crotten\u201d critics\u2019 score on Rotten Tomatoes\u2019 Tomatometer based on 94 reviews.<\/p>\n
