Add Darren Till to the list of people who think the UFC is mailing it in right now.<\/p>\n
Over the past several years, MMA fans have debated whether the UFC product is dipping in quality. That conversation was given new life this year, when Ronda Rousey ended her decade-long retirement to sign on with Most Valuable Promotions, and, seemingly, to pick a fight with the UFC. For months, Rousey has been railing against the declining quality of UFC cards and the lack of promotion from the company, and another big-name fighter is now joining in.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, former UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till also ripped the UFC for the state of their product right now.<\/p>\n
\u201dThe UFC has gone to shit a bit,\u201d Till told Yahoo Sports<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m not happy with it. There\u2019s just nothing there.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m sorry to say, the last London event was just f*cking disastrous. The London events when [Michael] Bisping fought, mate \u2014 I got knocked out again in London [in 2019], but the atmosphere for that was electric. Like, bar me getting knocked out, the atmosphere was electric. The fight was even good with [Jorge] Masvidal. [UFC] ain\u2019t got that no more. It just hasn\u2019t got that. Do you know what I mean? There\u2019s no life in it. \u2026 It means more when the promoter\u2019s behind it and has passion. Dana\u2019s just lost his mojo.\u201d<\/p>\n This has been a common refrain from various people over the past few years, particularly as White has embarked on several new ventures, including PowerSlap, UFC BJJ, Zuffa Boxing, a racing team, and more. And like many others, Till believes that the change is a matter of White simply not being focused on the UFC anymore.<\/p>\n \u201dI do like Dana, but I just think Dana\u2019s ego is getting a little bit too much out of control,\u201d Till said. \u201cI think he\u2019s totally switched off from UFC. I don\u2019t even watch the UFC no more, really. I couldn\u2019t tell you half the people who fight on it. The events just aren\u2019t juicy no more. I think they\u2019ve got very few stars left. And I\u2019m pissed off, to be honest, with the media side of things. Every time Dana\u2019s in a scrum, it\u2019s like these reporters are scared to say the real thing. When they do ask questions, Dana\u2019s all sort of like, \u2018Who gives a shit?\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cWe give a shit. I give a shit. So give us a f*cking answer, baldy. Take your ego away. I\u2019m sorry to slag him, because I\u2019ll go on one now, but I give a shit. What do you mean, \u2018Who gives a shit?\u2019 We give a shit, so give us some f*cking answers.\u201d<\/p>\n Of course, there are a few things that White does still get involved with for the UFC, particularly when the promotion does a big show. That\u2019s the case this summer for UFC White House, possibly the biggest show in the promotion\u2019s history. But even that card has been met with criticism, and for Till, really just encapsulates the whole issue of the modern UFC.<\/p>\n \u201dI look at the card, and it just doesn\u2019t get my juices flowing like the way the other [old] cards [did],\u201d Till said. \u201cThe reason the UFC caught up to boxing is because back in the day, you had co-main events like Robbie Lawler [vs.] Rory MacDonald, Conor McGregor, Jose Aldo. The Madison Square Garden fight they done \u2014 [UFC] 205 \u2014 just the fights back then, they just had a different thing to them. And I just look at the White House now, and I just think, a load of shit.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not saying anything against them, but Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje, just doesn\u2019t interest me. Wrestling is obviously doing well this year. Personally, I like the idea that MMA fighters have the option to face each other not only in MMA, but also in more traditional disciplines.<\/p>\n That said, what other martial art could see some breakout success? Given the Olympics, Judo and TKD are possibilities. It is definitely not declining due to a lack of competition, which is the inevitable endpoint of all unregulated capital markets. That\u2019s not true at all.
