\u201cI woke up early (this morning) and saw it on Twitter,\u201d Giddey told Channel 9 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously it was in the air, what he was going to do … it\u2019s going to look different next year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI loved my time with Billy, I\u2019ve always vouched for him, I wish he could have been there and stayed there, but this is part of the the business of the NBA, so we\u2019ll see how this looks going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, the Bulls fired vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley after six-year stays.<\/p>\n
Donovan\u2019s departure gives their eventual replacement a clean slate in hiring a new coach.<\/p>\n
\u201cBilly Donovan is one of the finest people and coaches I have had the privilege of knowing and working with,\u201d Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe brought class and genuine care to this organisation that made a real impact on people.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wanted Billy to continue as our head coach \u2014 that was never in question. But through honest conversations, we all agreed that giving our new head of basketball operations the right to build out his staff was the most important thing for the future of this franchise.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the kind of person Billy is \u2014 he put the Bulls first. We\u2019re deeply grateful for everything he has given to this organisation.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Bulls have not won a playoff series since 2015 and have missed the playoffs in eight of the past nine years with only one winning campaign.<\/p>\n
