{"id":625594,"date":"2026-04-23T11:32:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T11:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/625594\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T11:32:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T11:32:12","slug":"mandurah-cafe-nourishing-the-soul-closes-after-nine-years-in-mariners-cove-due-to-impeding-redevelopment-toto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/625594\/","title":{"rendered":"Mandurah cafe Nourishing the Soul closes after nine years in Mariners Cove due to impeding redevelopment toto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A beloved Mandurah caf\u00e9 has closed after nine years of \u2018nourishing\u2019 locals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Nourishing the Soul was the only place to get hot coffee and good food in the suburb of Mariners Cove.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">But owner Paige Baylis said farewell last weekend citing redevelopment of the site as one of the reasons for the closure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">In 2023, about 70 locals protested the redevelopment concerned about parking, access to the existing marina and environmental impact on the Creery Wetlands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A $6.4m five townhouse, seven apartment three-storey mixed-use development by Salander Property and lot owner Urban Orchard including a marina extension, 46 boat pens, a restaurant and 50 parking bays was approved for the site in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Which meant for the past three years, Ms Baylis was operating without a lease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">But taking to social media last week the caf\u00e9 owner gave thanks to her regulars.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2bd1b2e10e0fe6908855e8a219d79167ca940e64.jpg\" alt=\"Nourishing the Soul.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconNourishing the Soul. Credit: Google<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThis caf\u00e9 has been so much more than just a place to eat and drink &#8211; it has been a home, a meeting place, and a space filled with laughter, stories, friendships, and countless memories,\u201d Ms Baylis wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe daily banter, the familiar faces, the small moments we\u2019ve shared&#8230; these are the things we will carry with us forever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cTo every single person who has walked through our doors, supported us, shared a laugh, or simply made this place what it is &#8211; thank you.
