A week after Geelong star <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/sport\/afl\/afl-friday-double-header-live-cats-and-dogs-clash-sydney-derby-lights-up-scg-20260417-p5zowz.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Cameron slammed home 10 goals against their undermanned defence<\/a>, missing Lobb and James O\u2019Donnell, Charlie Curnow and Joel Amartey booted seven goals and three respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The pair were far too good for the undersized Buku Khamis and Ryan Gardner, the latter playing just his second senior game since late 2023.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Ruckman Brodie Grundy capitalised on English\u2019s absence with 35 hitouts, 18 possessions and two goals in a starring performance.<\/p>\n<p>Naughton landed on his head and neck after flipping midair attempting a high mark on Jai Serong deep in the Bulldogs\u2019 forward line in the third quarter. Without their twin towers in attack, the Dogs finished the game with a pair of third-gamers Will Lewis and Louis Emmett filling the key forward posts.<\/p>\n<p>The Dogs had harboured hope Lobb would be available to face the Swans, but he felt sore in another part of his hamstring at training during the week and was sent for more scans, which revealed a more serious injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething showed up as a bit risky, and so we\u2019ll need to be conservative with him,\u201d Beveridge said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe initial signs were that he got a knock, [and] bit of bleeding, probably from that. But then subsequently, in another spot, he had some discomfort so we went out to look at that, and it showed up something that could turn into something worse. We all need to understand what we can influence and control, and he\u2019s working through that in his own leadership capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s always a tremendous support for his teammates, but on nights like this, there was always going to be an element of frustration with everything, with everyone, and he\u2019s probably feeling a fair bit of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Injuries to their stars have exposed the depth on the Dogs\u2019 list, forcing Beveridge to play eight players with fewer than 15 games\u2019 experience.<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s pick<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/sport\/afl\/yze-can-coach-but-he-can-t-do-it-with-one-hand-tied-behind-his-back-20260422-p5zq6m.html\" tabindex=\"-1\" class=\"sc-cba76dee-0 hdiTqm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"There\u2019s only so much Adem Yze can do as a coach in his position.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/6462e447440b06bf01e1bbc56799e0baf54157c0.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d34e428-1 ioInpc\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He has the difficult task of convincing young pups like Jedd Busslinger, Lewis and Emmett they can contribute to Bulldogs victories while knowing full well his team is significantly weakened by their lengthy injury list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s the two c-words \u2013 capacity and capability,\u201d Beveridge said. \u201cWe\u2019ve got a lot of boys who haven\u2019t played a lot of footy yet, and they\u2019re just finding out what AFL footy is about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cForm ends up being linked to those things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd sometimes that\u2019s linked to inexperience.
