(ABC News: Cara Jeffery)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Ryan said fertiliser availability was also weighing heavily on growers as they planned for next season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;My main concern at the moment is not only the price of it, but the uncertainty of if it&#8217;s going to turn up,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He said rising input costs and stagnant returns were putting farmers under pressure and influencing decision-making about winter crops.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;With fuel where it is, fertiliser where it is and the climate outlook with water, I&#8217;m expecting an even lower allocation of water and probably higher prices,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Just on my farm, I can see us probably shutting the gates for the season now and hoping for rain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We&#8217;re copping it at all angles at the moment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Karratha, WA<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In the regional city of Karratha, 1,500 kilometres north of Perth, grandmother Tammy Brown said the\u00a0cost\u00a0of fuel\u00a0has meant\u00a0missing\u00a0out on\u00a0seeing her family.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">She said her daughter and granddaughter can no longer afford the fuel for the 16-hour drive north to see her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;She&#8217;d probably be looking at about $900 each way, and then she needs accommodation \u2014 she&#8217;s got a one-year-old \u2014 she doesn&#8217;t want to drive the whole way through,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Tammy Brown in Karatha.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/9c1c4d0d4173ff8b06bc25792a00ca81.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Tammy Brown says the\u00a0cost\u00a0of fuel\u00a0has meant\u00a0she is missing out on seeing her grandchildren. (ABC News: Monty Jacka)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It was a habit the public servant already had before the fuel crisis, something he said he was &#8220;not really thinking about&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I just don&#8217;t let it bother me, basically,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">While he did notice the higher cost when he filled up his car on the weekend, Mr Quartly said he was not letting it affect him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I notice it&#8217;s a lot more expensive to fill up, but I&#8217;m not letting it stop me from going on adventures on the weekend and things like that,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Wauchope, NSW<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Chris Sturt, who runs a nursery at Wauchope on the NSW Mid North Coast, said demand for vegetable seedlings had skyrocketed, with interest from backyard growers reaching levels similar to during the COVID lockdowns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Stuart said demand was being driven by cost-of-living pressures and fears of further price rises.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a whole different ball game,&#8221;  he said.<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man in a red shirt stands at a nursery.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/4157163a222024fe2c0c406d048851d3.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Chris Sturt says everything has gone up, not just fuel.
