UFC roster shake-up sees Paddy Pimblett’s training partner Shem Rock and former title challenger Pedro Munhoz shown the door. Dana White’s latest cuts follow a post-fight brawl at UFC London and a veteran’s decision to pursue fresh opportunities after 22 bantamweight appearances.

Shem Rock’s turbulent stint and London aftermath

Shem Rock’s UFC journey never truly took off. The lightweight prospect stumbled in his debut against Nurullo Aliev last November and failed to rebound at UFC London, where a heated post-fight scuffle with Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady at The O2 Arena marked his final appearance. The incident, coming on the back of a cancelled handshake at the weigh-ins, convinced matchmakers that Rock’s contract would not be renewed.

Pedro Munhoz requests release after decade-plus service

In stark contrast, Pedro Munhoz leaves of his own accord. The 39-year-old Brazilian made his UFC debut in 2014 and amassed seven post-fight bonuses across 22 bantamweight bouts, headlining UFC Fight Night against Frankie Edgar in 2020. A three-fight skid prompted Munhoz to request his release earlier this month, signalling his intention to explore new promotions where he can rebuild his momentum.

What these cuts mean for the UFC roster

The departure of Rock and Munhoz opens doors on both the lightweight and bantamweight rosters. UFC London showcased the depth of Britain’s lightweight division, and Rock’s exit underscores the promotion’s low tolerance for repeated losses and disciplinary issues. Meanwhile, Munhoz’s vacancy could pave the way for rising contenders to stake their claim or for Paddy Pimblett to pull in a higher-profile training partner ahead of his next assignment.

As the UFC prepares for its summer schedule, these roster changes highlight Dana White’s commitment to performance-based signings and veteran respect. Fans can expect fresh faces in upcoming events and renewed competition at 145lb and 135lb.

FAQWhat led to Shem Rock’s UFC release?

Shem Rock suffered back-to-back losses, including his debut defeat and a controversial post-fight incident at UFC London. Those factors persuaded Dana White’s team not to renew his contract.

Why did Pedro Munhoz ask for his release from the UFC?

After three straight defeats and a 12-year run in the bantamweight division, Munhoz requested his release to seek fresh challenges and better opportunities outside the UFC.

Who is the next opponent for Paddy Pimblett’s camp after Rock’s exit?

With Shem Rock gone, Pimblett’s team will likely bring in a new training partner. No official name has been announced, but interest in seasoned lightweights remains high.

How do these cuts affect the UFC bantamweight division?

Pedro Munhoz’s departure opens a slot at 135lb, giving up-and-comers a chance to climb the rankings. It may also lead to reshuffled match-ups among established contenders.

UFC roster shake-up sees Paddy Pimblett’s training partner Shem Rock and former title challenger Pedro Munhoz shown the…

[570
64,63,786,785,85,787,302887
post-627229","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mma","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-fighting","tag-mma","tag-sports","tag-ufc","tag-uk-mma-news
["GET
