FAIRFIELD, Calif.\u00a0\u2013 In the opening round of the West Coast Conference tournament on Thursday, the sixth seed Santa Clara women’s tennis lost to third seed Washington State 4-0,\u00a0bringing an end to the Broncos’ 2026 dual match season.\u00a0 Santa Clara\u00a0finished the year 8-15\u00a0after qualifying for the league tournament for the first time since 2017-18.\u00a0 The Broncos won three of the final four regular season matches to earn a spot in the tournament but the lone loss in that span also came against Washington State, exactly a week ago.\u00a0\u00a0

\n\tWashington State (16-7)\u00a0claimed the doubles point and won the first three singles matches to blank Santa Clara\u00a0(8-15).
\n\tEva Alvarez Sande and Ava-Monet Sycamore clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Daniella Dimitrova<\/a> and Anna Rahman<\/a> on court two.\u00a0
\n\tThe Cougars continued their strong play in singles as Maxine Murphy was the first to finish on court two beating Lizanne Boyer<\/a> 6-4, 6-1.\u00a0
\n\tOn court five, Chisato Kanemaki took care of Tian Yu Dong<\/a> 6-4, 6-2 to push the lead out to 3-0.\u00a0
\n\tThe match clincher came on court three from Martina Puvill who defeated Anna Rahman<\/a> 6-4, 6-0.
\n\tAshley Katz<\/a> won the first set against Yura Nakagawa and was ahead 3-1 in the second set prior to the match getting clinched.\u00a0\u00a0
