Legendary actor Jack Nicholson made a rare appearance this week as his daughter Lorraine shared an intimate birthday snap of the reclusive icon turning 89.<\/p>\n
Days after publishing a blistering essay slamming \u201cstatus-obsessed\u201d Hollywood, Lorraine gave fans a glimpse of her famously private father on his birthday on Wednesday, reports Page Six<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201c89!!\u201d she wrote on an Instagram Story, sharing a photo of the three-time Oscar winner at home.<\/p>\n The candid snap shows The Shining star relaxed in a cozy, art-filled living room, smiling and clapping mid-celebration while dressed in a dark polo and rust-coloured trousers.<\/p>\n A second throwback image in the post captures a much younger Nicholson in a bright red \u201cDrink Coca-Cola\u201d T-shirt, cigar in hand and flashing his signature grin.<\/p>\n The sighting is notable given the actor\u2019s near-total retreat from public life in recent years.<\/p>\n Once a constant presence in Hollywood and courtside at Lakers games, the The Departed actor has largely stayed out of the spotlight.<\/p>\n Lorraine, 36, is one of Nicholson\u2019s six children and remains especially close with him, along with her brother Ray, 33.<\/p>\n Both followed their father into acting, though Lorraine has since shifted toward directing and producing.<\/p>\n She last shared a photo of her father in November, calling the snap \u201cA November to remember,\u201d alongside a family shot that included Ray as well as photos with her boyfriend, director Jason Reitman.<\/p>\n Nicholson also made a surprise appearance in February last year at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special, where he introduced Adam Sandler.<\/p>\n His last film role dates back to 2010s How Do You Know, directed by James L. Brooks, who previously helmed Nicholson\u2019s Oscar-winning performances in Terms of Endearment and As Good as It Gets.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Lorraine generated buzz of her own this week with a candid essay in W<\/a>Magazine<\/a>, where she took aim at Hollywood culture.<\/p>\n \u201cL.A. has established itself as the status-anxiety capital of the world,\u201d she wrote, adding that clout-chasing follows industry players \u201cto the grave.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued, \u201cIt means that when you\u2019re at a party, women won\u2019t peer over your shoulder to see who else has arrived, and men won\u2019t interrupt you in the middle of a story to get a drink.\u201d<\/p>\n She also took a swipe at influencer culture, writing that \u201cpublic\u201d workouts are now the \u201cdomain of influencers\u201d who \u201cwill exchange Instagram posts for free personal training and an unlimited supply of leggings.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIn Los Angeles, a social media following means reservations at Alba and free trips to Costa Rica \u2014 but it will not get you into Guy Oseary\u2019s Oscars party,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
